From Camellia Sinensis

The presence of golden buds indicates a fine aromatic tea. The crystal clear liquor is soft and sweet, and earthy, floral and vegetal (buckwheat) aspects are clear. Woody persistence (resinous) and rusticity (leather) develops into a smooth and milky finish.

This reminds me of Black Needles from DAVIDsTEA, but this is a bit “spicier”, more earthy and slightly less sweet. When it comes to black tea buds you really can’t go wrong. Yunnan Da Ye Hong is another easy to enjoy tea that can be drunk multiple times a week without getting boring or sickening. Also I think it’s a shame not to resteep teas like this, the second and third steeps are very tasty.

2021 sipdown no. 28

Another sipdown this morning, this one was a bit more sad. This was thrown in as a sample in my CS order and it was truly delicious. So silky I couldn’t believe it. I would definitely order this one in my next CS order.

Aside: Lexa got me a super cool Star Wars planner that I’ve been trying to get into the habit of using. I also use Google cal, but I liked the idea of a little paper planner too. Anyway, all that to say that at the start of the weeks, I’ve begun writing down which teas I want to sip down in the next week or so! This week it’s Red Snail and Charlotte aux Fruits Rouges because they’re getting close!

I did a planner for a bit last year and it was fun! I ended up with so many stickers… Writing down tea goals is a good idea!

Courtney

Haha, the stickers! I have some, but I haven’t used any yet. I can’t say the same for my course notebooks – loads of stickers!

Lexie Aleah

I just committed to using a planner for my classes last year and it’s helped me out so much!

Courtney

That’s awesome Lexie!

From Sil. :)

Just a sweet black tea. Little bit floral, tiny bit earthy.

Sipping on it as I try to get into the readings I have for class… not having much luck TBH. Maybe I just need to read the abstracts and identify what the method is.

Thank you Sil for sending a sample of this my way. :)

I’ve western steeped the whole sample three times and it held up really well to that.
This isn’t my favorite style of black tea, but it certainly is a decent cup. It’s really smooth and gentle. A little starchy, quite sweet, a bit fruity. I’m not getting any malt or chocolate.
Happy to be drinking it today, but this wouldn’t have a permanent place in my cupboard.

Sil

best part about sharing things. great to try, now i don’t have to buy hahaha

not a bad start to my day. This one is a little sweet, a little tangy…no malt here or that sweet potato taste you sometimes get. just a decent cup of tea
