Nutmeg Dusted Custard

How can it be Monday again already? Anyone else notice how quickly the weekends seem to disappear? The good news I guess, is the older I get, the faster the weekdays seem to fly as well… Its an unusually cool morning here in Southern California, we’re actually expecting our first winter storm of the season to hit today and tomorrow which hopefully translates into some rain here where I am. This tea seemed perfect this morning due to the cooler change but its definitely seen better days! The flavor is starting to fade and although still tasty its not quite as good as I remember it. Another one to add to the sipdown pile to enjoy before it becomes flavorless.

I woke up at 6 today since I went to bed super early last night and that dratted time change happened. I’ve been puttering around, getting things done in the apartment before I head out to the mall to run some errands. Sadly, the mall doesn’t open until 11. Yeah. It’s like half my day will be over by that point.

Anyways, I went through my teas again last night and (gasp) threw some out that were old and icky. Set some aside to send to my brother. Put a couple out to taste again before I get rid of them.

This is one I had totally forgot I had. And it’s so good. I made it and sipped on it while I set up a chicken and wild rice soup in my slow cooker. I think I have 1 or 2 cups left, and I should really go ahead and drink them. The other teas are straight blacks, so they’ll be fine for a while if I throw them into a tin to protect them a little more from the air.

I used this recipe, but with more of everything since my slow cooker is ginormous. http://pinchofyum.com/crockpot-chicken-wild-rice-soup I’ll also use tapioca or sweet rice flour to make the thickener. And I’ll get some almond or cashew milk today to make it creamy.

Needed some black tea today, so I picked this one. It certainly smells a bit like custard. The flavour is sweet and creamy, with some vanilla. There is more of a nutmeg scent, I don’t really taste it much. As I have not tried the first version, I can not compare them. Perhaps I should try brewing it longer next time. Thanks to cookies for the sample.

Let me first say that I did not try the original that this was based off of. However, this was lovely! The nutmeg was very light and the custard flavor came out stronger as the cup cooled. Really nice to have at night after dinner.

I am always amazed at how some teas can truly capture the rich thickness of cream/custard. This is one of those teas. Pure custard deliciousness with just a touch of nutmeg to keep things fun. Amazing. Truly amazing. Oh Butiki, you are definitely missed.

I found I really preferred this tea as it cooled. I think I liked the original Nutmeg Cream better.

AGH. I knew I should have grabbed more of this! Those of you who split this tea order… let me tell you that it’s all I can do to not totally disappear from the world with your couple ounces of this (ok ok, kidding, but seriously, it is SO good.)

Maybe my original Nutmeg Cream lost something by being in a baggie (though I did try it when I first got it, too), but this version blows it out of the water for me. And I can definitely tell that it’s the eggnog flavouring here, which actually makes it even tastier – if this is what the Creamy Eggnog blend tastes like with the nutmeg, I am also kicking myself for not ordering more of that, haha. Anyhow, perfect creamy eggnog flavouring, perfect amount of nutmeg, perfect base tea with just enough flavour and no astringency. This could actually replace eggnog for me, it is that good.

Yes! This has the same delicious creamy nutmeg flavor that Nutmeg Cream has! It has a little brighter or lighter of background to it (I’m comparing the two side by side at the moment), I’m guessing due to the different base. I am going to be kicking myself when this is gone for not having bought more. So if anyone who ordered it didn’t end up liking it, let me know cause I’d love to buy or trade!
