From Bitterleaf Teas

With almost two decades of age on it, this Anhua fuzhuan heicha is well populated with golden flowers. The flavour is smooth and medicinal, with a pleasant and mellow camphor scent, slightly nutty character and lingering sweetness.

We purchased this tea as broken fuzhuan bricks, therefore there is a high amount of broken pieces. Please note that all 25g samples are comprised of loose tea from the bricks, while higher amounts will include intact pieces of bricks. In both cases, we will try to include pieces with plenty of golden flowers.

$0.11/gram

We do not adise this tea for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity due to the inoculation process for the golden flowers, which can involve wheat flour.

A balanced hei cha. It didn’t really impress me. Mushroom flavours predominate early on, followed by some mild honey-like sweetness, followed by nuttiness. A bit more shou-like than most non-shou hei cha, though I could still taste that ‘golden flower’ sweetness. Medium body.
