I was really curious about this tea, because I had never seen watermelon used as a flavour before. I do think the name is slightly misleading, as I do detect a good and yummy blend of coconut and tropical fruits, but not really the watermelon. That said, I find the tea quite good, naturally sweet and fresh, a perfect summer drink, especially if cold brewed.

221/365

I still don’t find this one particularly watermelony, and that makes me a bit sad. The main flavour I get from this one is coconut, followed by pineapple. It’s a bit pina colada-y, which is nice, but not exactly expected. There is an element of watermelon in the mid-sip; a kind of sweetish wateriness that’s actually really pleasant and refreshing. It fades quickly, though, and doesn’t make much of an impression against the stronger coconut and pineapple flavours. I like that it’s light and fairly subtle, because sometimes on a hot day that’s just the thing.

It was nice to revisit this one, but I think I’d probably not repurchase once I’ve finished my sample. I want MORE watermelon!

Resteeped my leaves from the cold brew. BAD idea. Yeesh, seriously, what was I thinking? There is zero watermelon flavour in the resteep. Or any flavour at all come to mention it. Other than what can only be described as ‘lightly fishy’. Blech. Stick to the one steep for this one, methinks.

Backlog:

I was at first a little upset to see hibiscus as one of the ingredients, fortunately, the hibiscus adds relatively little to the blend except for a pretty pinkish hue to the cup which does – admittedly – enhance the “watermelon-ish-ness” of this tea. Fortunately, it doesn’t do much to the flavor (I don’t want an overly tart watermelon tea!) nor the texture (a watermelon tea should be on the light side, I think).

There is some tartness to this, but not just from the hibiscus, but from the lemon-y notes. And I do like the lemon and the watermelon together. The lemon brightens the cup nicely.

A very fruity tea, I like that I can also taste notes of the tea base which is a green and white tea base. It’s light, buttery and fresh tasting. I do think that the tea tends to be more of a background note, and the fruit medley is more focused than the tea. But the flavors are so nice that it’s hard to complain about that.

Overall, I enjoyed it. It’s a little more fruit than it is tea, but it’s a pleasant tasting cuppa. Here’s my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2014/08/27/watermelon-splash-tea-blend-from-bluebird-tea-co/

Oh hello, I’m the first person to review this tea! NEAT!

Watermelon isn’t something I tend to think of as a flavour option outside of watermelon itself, and the watermelon Bubblicious bubblegum that for some reason I have really fond memories of from, like, the 90s. That was GOOD gum. I don’t even like gum, really, but that was GOOD gum.

This tea changes everything. I’ve found a new watermelon thing. The scent punches you in the face with a tidal wave of melony goodness, and when it’s brewed, it tastes like hot watermelon, which I super didn’t think would work anywhere near as well as it does. I suspect it’ll be really really good cold too, but there’s no way this cup is going to last long enough for me to find out today. The taste is pretty much pure watermelon, in spite of the other fruits going on in the mix, apart from a slightly tart finish that I think is coming from the lemon and hibiscus in there. Plus, it’s a really pretty watermelon pink colour. A perfect blend of refreshing and fun. YES. There’s nothing about this tea I don’t love.
