From American Tea Room

Lemon Drop is an organic blend of Chinese Black tea with a burst of lemon sunshine creating a distinctly modern take on the classic black tea with lemon. The lemon taste is forefront complimenting the sweet citrus notes of grapefruit lemograss, orange and bergamot that blend harmoniously in the background. The hearty taste of the fine quality Chinese Yunnan leaves rounds out the blend – and will leave you with a taste for more.

I had been wanting to make an ATR order for a while to get more Milk Oolong, and eventually one of their 20% off sales coincided with some extra money for me, also happened to be when they were offering free samples of two new teas for Steepsterites. I was more interested in Lady Grey than this one, but I chose this one today because the package was already slightly opened (heat sealer didn’t quite seal) and while I didn’t lose any tea, I figured I would go ahead and drink it up.

Let me just say, I’m very impressed. If you want a very lemony black tea, this is the tea for you. But that’s not to say that it is all tart lemon… this tea is amazingly smooth and almost creamy-sweet. It reminds me a bit of a really awesome lemon bar. Mainly I am impressed with how smooth and rich it is; this tea has some heft to it, a thickness to the texture that adds to the sense of creaminess. The black tea doesn’t really stick out, but it provides a nice, substantial base to the blend. Thanks again to ATR for the sample!

Oh, I will always love the way ATR presents their samples. Great packaging and very generous sizes. I wish all companies sold samples like this.

Lemon Drop is a great name for this one because it smells and tastes like an ultra lemony hard candy. Emphasis on ultra. By far the most lemony tea I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t taste the other citrus fruits in here, however, the base is smooth, and the second steep yields quite a bit of lemon flavour, as well, so it’s a good one to try if you’re a fan of lemon.

I’m sure with milk and sugar it would taste like lemon pie. But straight, I can see drinking this when I’m sick.

Pleasantly surprised by this sample I received with an order from ATR. They hit the lemon perfectly with this blend – for me, good intensity and nice flavor. Best use of bergamot that I’ve ever experienced – - I am usually not at all a fan — but here it lies in the background as a low-key accent. The overall flavor intensity is strong but not overbearing.

2nd steep still has a lot of flavor though unfortunately the bergamot comes out of the wings and settles in the front row. Next time no resteeping for me :) though bergamot fans will consider it lovely, still having a nice balance of lemon to it.

If you are looking for a lemony tea I would recommend this; it has a more sophisticated flavor profile than you’d expect in a lemon tea, and it tastes natural.

I decided to try this now because I had a few sips of my husband’s sweetened Samurai Chai/Lemon Drop. (Normally it’s Hot Lips, but I did not want to open my last pack). It was so good and for the first time I could see how lemon could be good with chai, I wanted to drink it all and not share.

Since it was already out I decided to try Lemon Drop on its own. I can’t say what it tasted like without sugar this time only that after my first sip I added sugar and then more sugar and then, it tasted like a “creamy” lemon drop. I was surprised to notice the creaminess Dinosara mentioned, it was very tasty. I don’t normally like lemon tea but that may be cause I don’t want to add a lot of sugar. I need to learn to like stevia again so I can drink this more often.

I will save the rest of the sample for my husbands chai, he really enjoyed it. If I ever get more I will try a shorter steeping time than ATR suggests (4min) and then maybe I will not need as much sugar.
