More proof I’ve switched into winter tea drinking mode…

This was a nice cup with cooling but sweet peppermint candy notes, a hint of cocoa, and a really nice and toasty roasted green tea/kukicha profile. There were some strange elements to the finish though; the kukicha had that mineral note that sometimes tasted like coppery pennies to me and the candy cane note kind of built up throughout the cup into this slightly waxy candy kind of taste. Ok for a small mug or teacup, I think – but I imagine that I wouldn’t be able to finish off a whole teapot worth of this tea…

Not too shabby. I wasn’t impressed that this was a green tea, until I saw that it looked like it’s probably houjicha or bancha or something similar – yum! It did indeed taste like a pepperminty hot chocolate, although the chocolate could be stronger. The base was great. This would have been terrible with a standard sencha base, IMO. The roastiness of the tea matched it well.
