Tea of the Week for May 7, 2018!

One day while web surfing, I came across a recipe for a Ginger Mint Julep. I’m not sure why the recipe intrigued me, but it did. When I find an intriguing recipe, inevitably I have this thought: How would that translate into tea? Yes, I am a tea geek.

So, I drafted a recipe and decided that I must make this for the first week of May because . . . Kentucky Derby!

Sipdown (611)!

Another Kittenna share! I actually really enjoyed this one, but it definitely felt more like a Mojito inspired blend rather than a Mint Julep – I think the mint/lime pairing will probably always remind me of Mojitos. I was pleasantly surprised that the mint in this blend is spearmint; quite tasty and I like how the sweetness of the spearmint worked with the zestiness of the lime notes. Just a hint of ginger; added some warmth and complexity – I think it was a nice amount; any more would have been unpleasant for me and could have potentially muddled up the cup. This was a good balance!

I see Sil removed some mint when steeping this tea. That sounds like a smart idea, as I think it was the mint that turned me off it, actually. In fact, I could barely finish the cup. It was definitely a gingery, minty, cup of black tea, as advertised, although I didn’t notice the lime. I was hoping for a more ginger-forward tea with a nice lime note and a minty background, but that probably wasn’t the intent of the tea. This is going in my giveaway pile, though, as I don’t really want to drink it again. It’s just too minty for me, and mint remains one of my most-hated tea flavours. As luck would have it, though, my mom thinks mint is just fine, and loves ginger. So, she’ll probably enjoy this.

Tea from earlier today. i pulled out a little of the mint when i brewed it up – my go to approach for this now because while i love it, I need a little less mint. I like the ginger in this one with the lime but prefer just a hint of mint. :)
