When my family took a vacation to York we were told by almost everyone we talked to that Betty’s was the place to go. We went there on our last day in the city, and it was a great goodbye to our time in England. Their desserts were the best part of the meal, in my opinion, but all the food was very good.
I got their China Rose Petal tea and a giant raspberry macaron, and both were delicious. I do not remember my own meal, but I do remember that my dad got Welsh rarebit. It was delicious. They make a point of selling local beers and other products, which I also liked.
The staff (who were very friendly and attentive) all dress like they would have in the early 1900s, and the house is decorated in the same way. It’s a great atmosphere and when you eat there you get a sense that it’s been at the heart of York for a while. There was a bit of a line to get in, but it was definitely worth the wait.
