We make reservations for tea at the Idlewyld Inn every year for Valentine’s Day. I had not been impressed in the past (they were using low quality bagged tea, low quality restaurant cups and saucers, and the food was ok but not great). We had planned to try afternoon tea elsewhere in London this year, but unfortunately the only other option had stopped offering their tea menu recently.

I am glad that we went back to the Idlewyld Inn this year. They have completely revamped their tea service: they are now serving loose leaf tea from The Tea Haus in London; they have acquired a collection antique china teacups, plates and saucers (and they are working on getting appropriate tea pots); and the quality and selection of the scones, hors d’oeuvres and sweets is just incredible. The service has been stepped up as well and our host was absolutely wonderful. It was a blissful, indulgent afternoon. The price has been raised by approx. $10; however, it was well worth it. I would rather pay more for a high quality afternoon tea than pay a bit less for something I didn’t enjoy.

If you haven’t been to tea at the Idlewyld Inn recently (within the last year or less), I highly recommend a return visit!
