I would like to start out by saying; I don’t really like green tea. I thought I liked black teas but on a recent visit to a local tea shop, I found that I liked more of the green teas than the black. I’m also new to tea in general, so starting on matcha might not have been the best idea. That being said… the first time I tried making this matcha, I was really grossed out. I used WAY too much (about 1 ½ tsp) matcha…it tasted powdery. I was quite disgusted that I paid 26$ for something I didn’t want to drink.
I was determined to like the tea, this time I made it according to the directions provided (hot brewing) to make a latte. I added ~1 tsp raw honey and ~1/3-1/2 cup vanilla almond milk. The cheesecake flavor really shines when you add some milk to it. I’m looking forward to trying this with coconut milk! Without any added milk this tastes like straight up green tea to me, if I do order this again I’ll definitely want to try Robust instead of Distinctive for flavor options.
Overall I’m really impressed with how fast I got my order and all the information that was included with it. Very helpful for people new to matcha, helped me out a lot!
Preparation
I don’t typically like straight green tea(I’m really more of a black tea person), so Tazo’s Zen is a really great green blend for me. There’s not much of a green tea taste, you get a lot more lemongrass and spearmint. I like mine with a teaspoon of creamed honey and some coconut milk, really good. I would love to find something similar loose leaf if anyone has any suggestions?
