Bizen teaware

I’ve just purchased a Bizen Earthenware water jug. I’m in the process of washing and cleaning it before storing water for tea in it for use. It has a rather “muddy” odor in it right now. I’m hoping that letting it soak a while with baking soda will take care of this. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to handle this?
