What is your favorite tea and why?

Jasmine Pearls. Jasmine tea is what started the tea journey for me, so I partially prefer it out of nostalgia, but not entirely. While I prefer pearls over other types, I still always reach for this as my default tea, or when I’ve had a “too much” day. They also blend extremely well, which works if I want something a little different. Jasmine pearls just embodies the whole tea experience for me.

I’m always surprised at how varied Darjeelings can be even within the same Spring Flush. I am currently rotating a number of Mariage Frers Spring Flush Darjeelings ranging from Sivitar at one end, to the very different Ambootia which has similar traits to a green tea, and the Namring which this year has all the classic flavor and taste of a Spring Darjeeling Tea. So this year the Namring SFTGFOP1 DJ1 is my favorite. Last year it was the Castleton SFTGFOP1 DJ8. Still waiting to order the Casteton for this year to see how it compares to the previous year.

I am drinking the Itoen Japanese Green teas in the morning, various black teas mid day at work, Mariage Freres Premium Spring Flush Darjeelings at home after work, and Taiwanese High Mountain Oolong Teas during the weekend. Will often drink Green or Red unflavored Rooibos if it’s late at night.

For a while now it’s been my Assam Margherita. It’s just a good, solid, malty black.
