Tea Storage - Help!
Like many people here on Steepster, I have a lot of tea!
Mostly it is in bags, like the 50g ones from DAVIDsTEA, and these are difficult to store as they don’t always want to stand up straight/pack away tidily, etc. I currently have a tea cupboard, a tea shelf, two tea drawers and the top of my desk is covered as well!
So I am just wondering if anyone has any creative storage tips to share, or knows of a place where I could get a lot of tins (mostly 50g size) for cheap!
Any insight would be helpful and greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
Container store! But go TO a store as most shipped tins arrive dented. I have some of each of the 3 sizes, good for 1oz, 2oz or 3-4 for less than $2 a tin! Then get yourself some labels and you’re good to go!

I bought a number of TEAT4 tins for my tea and they hold about 100g of tea, so you could probably go down to a smaller size if you wanted. There are also a large variety of sizes of deep round tins as well on that site (though I like the square ones because they pack better). A lot of the smaller tins are less than a dollar, and no problems on shipping them.
wow! it’s a container lover’s dream! haha, thank you both very much, this looks perfect.
and i checked, indigobloom; both companies ship to canada! :)
If you got any tins lying about that can close tightly, reuse them. I got tins leftover from Tazo tea tins that store about 8 ounces or more , not one of the teas gone stale or became flat. Anything that can close tight, or merely shut out air, light and odors are quite alright so long as you wash those containers properly before reusing them.
Harney sells their tins if you email or call them. The tins that hold roughly 4 oz of tea were $1 last fall.
My sweetie got me a couple of square baskets that I have been using to store smaller envelopes and things of that nature, I find it works well for me. For larger quantities tins are great but I guess I am cheap and I don’t want to buy tins but I usually do recycle/repurpose the ones I have.
I have some zip bags in baskets, too. I have one basket for amounts under 2 oz., another basket for samples I have not tried, and yet one or two more larger ones that hold the overage for refilling tins. I will definitely not run out of tea any time soon…..
If you want to keep them in bags, I store mine in two of the Ikea filing cabinet boxes (http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/90180389/#/00185838 ) I have one caffinated and one non. I can usually get my entire collection in the two of them (I have at least 60 teas at any one time).
