Best quality tea brand

Hi,

I’m a 22 year old student who is quite interested in tea, or at least drinks a lot of tea and likes the flavor of it. I’ve always bought cheap tea’s from the stores themselves (Tea from Aldi or Delhaize, colruyt…). As I am a student I do not really have the money to buy specialty teas. But I’m looking for the best major tea brand that sells “quality” tea. Brands that you can buy almost everywhere like Pickwick, Lipton, Yogi, Twinings,…
I’ve searched around for some lists but different teas always show up. So some opinions of tea enthousiasts would be nice ;).

Kind regards,
Qontrax

Go to nearest Chinese supermarket get a years supply of good leaf tea for under a tenner
Whole leaf tea is much better and better for you
Cut teas release the sap which makes it bitter whole leaf you get only the aromatics

I find that tea from my local Chinese Supermarket to be fair at best in most cases.

To put this in perspective average UK bag drinker spends around 80 quid a year for the “privilege” HA!
For 4 150-200 gram tins of the teas above. 20 to 25 quid in Woosang supermarket in Chinatown
I rebrew 3 or 4 times and a 4 cup cafetiere that’s 600 to 800 cups each tin = 5 cups a day of really good teas for an outlay of around 20 quid.

If you take sugar which you probably do drinking cut tea you need less than a quarter of what you’re used too if any
Soooo….. short of cash – go real Chinese teas and you’ll be at least 100 quid a year better off with a much healthier more enjoyable life-style.
In addition real tea is very effective at preventing weight gain, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Probably not a concern at your age but definitely this is if your at uni.

Medical FACT. when you drink green tea the combination of mild caffeine stimulus and the Blood/brain barrier crossing Thiamine produce increased dopamine levels and a measurable and considerable jump in synapse firing so you think faster concentrate better and have faster reactions! 15-20% better

Cut tea only exists because the EIC wanted more cheaper efficient transport in their clippers and brits only put sugar in their tea because they’ve been sold cheap bitter cut tea for so long they know nothing else.

Go with my suggestion and in six months you’ll be having the best tea parties on Campus, I really hope you take this road and enjoy the Journey. Good Luck at Uni and in life.

In closing, I wish this site existed when I was your age, I would have a collection worth tens of thousands by now! great job all you more experienced Teasters who make this site as good as it is! MAny Thanks

PS the leaves, being whole, are loads easier to dispose of than cut leaves too.

Thank you Fitz, I’m going to listen to you and go to the nearest Chinese store today. Thank you very much for all the help ;).

Don’t buy that much of one type of tea at first, buy some smaller amounts of different types of teas. When I started loose leaf I figured I would love japanese greens since I liked green tea bags. This was not the case.

Also, just assume all the purported health benefits of tea are bullshit because they are probably bullshit. Just because somebody types FACT in all caps does not mean it is a FACT, especially if they make up very specific percentages without any citations or proof. If you switch from drinking tea with sugar to drinking tea without sugar that will probably have a nice impact but you won’t suddenly start using more parts of you brain or gain telekinesis.

Lauren – What did you get and how is it?
I have been ordering on line and have some nice high end teas waiting for me when I get home..

Boner – fair criticism, must have been drinking coffee when I wrote that:) I never suggested Japanese tea because I too find it bitter (cut and ground soooo…)
To get telekinesis you need to go 50/50 Mescal and Irish Poteen, also gives the power of flight.

OP – Looks like you are pretty set from all the suggestions. If you are looking for online options. Teavana might be something to look at. They are closing soon so you might be able to snag some good deals. I’ve lately been going to Mahalo Tea (https://www.mahalotea.com) I like their variety and fruit flavored tea. They also have a Keemun that one of the other posters mentioned.

Fitz gives good advice about Asian markets. Lots of relatively good tea at a great price. As chainsaw_boner says, don’t buy too much of one thing. IMHO, the TenRen green tea is a great bargain.

Hello,

Honestly anytime of ethnic superstore or shopping center will suffice as they always have different and exotic types of tea for sale and for cheap as well. It is truly amazing that something so cheap can also taste so wonderful.
