Origin Country Field and Cupboard question

Hi – New to Steepster, but not new to tea. I’ve started entering a few teas here and am wondering if there is a place to track the country of origin or region of a country of origin for a particular tea. I didn’t see anything when trying to add a tea to my cupboard. If not, is there a way to add a custom field or something? Maybe I could put it in the Notes.

Also, is there a way to add teas to your cupboard and then mark it as empty if you use it up? I also like to keep track of teas that I may have had at one time but don’t currently have in stock.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you -

I don’t think there is a place to track the region or country of origin. It is sometimes part of the name of the tea, or sometimes included in the company description.

The best way to keep track of teas you’ve had in the past is through tasting notes. If you just want to keep track of what teas you’ve had you can click on “review this tea,” and “save tasting note.” Steepster will include that tea in your tealog and tea ratings even if you don’t write a note. Writing a note and rating the tea is very helpful though. After a certain point you will probably no longer remember what you thought of the tea, so it’s nice to have your past thoughts to look back on.

Having a country field in the tea description would be a good idea. Barring this you can sometimes get an idea where a tea is from just by the description. If it says Darjeeling or Assam it is from India, all puerh comes from China with the exception of what they call border teas. These will usually have something in the description. In last resort, the seller of the tea is listed and you should be able to go to the website and find out where the tea was from.
