An Ode to Tea challenge – Y
AND Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge Friday, April 9th: National Unicorn Day Tea #1
Yeti is a magical creature, maybe? So this works for Y and for the Unicorn Day challenge! And it’s a sipdown. I’m written about this one before… this reminds me more like a sea urchin but I guess it also seems like a yeti! The flavor is light and lovely. Tea in general is still magical to me, so I could have chose many magic teas today.

AH Wendigo has a blend called Baba Yaga Chaga!!!! That might be my favorite tea name ever.
I’d like to note the themes do not have to be interpreted the way I interpreted them — honestly, I thought most people would pick teas that have a taste or flavor profile that is “pure magic” to them. I needed to do something different since I’m trying to get my alphabet sipdown efforts in. While I always say “don’t take it so literally” and “be creative” it seems too many take it too literally. :-P
Yeah, I am trying to think of the themes in a variety of ways!
Though to be fair, the Mermaid tea I had today was a pretty magical experience! (I also love the tea name “Baba Yaga Chaga”!)
From Annie a while ago, thank you so much for this unique tea! I just plopped a yeti in a mug. I also dumped the loose leaves from the package, that weren’t attached to the yeti to keep steeping in the mug while taking the tied-together piece out after a minute. Not sure if I SHOULD have dumped the broken leaves into the mug, but I don’t like wasting tea! The yeti in general reminds me of a sea urchin! The flavor once you remove the uniqueness of the yeti from the cup, is a sweet, light white tea. Once you sip down the majority of the trichomes (or ahem, the hair of the yeti) in the first steep, the second steep is much smoother, so possibly an initial rinse would also be a good idea. The second steep was even better! Even sweeter, even lighter — I don’t think leaving the few loose leaves in the mug made the tea bitter at all… I should have kept going with more steeps, now that I think about it..

Discovery Tea Box – Tea Five
So, I’ve definitely creeped on Wendigo tea before – how could you not with a name/theme like that!? However, their shipping is a little steep and the teas they carry aren’t really unique enough in my mind to warrant a blind try of the company. I was really excited to see this in the box though; even if jasmine pearls are something I’ve had A LOT of exposure to I still like the idea that I’m getting to sample something from this company.
Really there’s not much special about this blend; it’s definitely really smooth and I’d say medium bodied. It feels very fresh, and I think the jasmine is pretty high quality/natural rather than done with jasmine “flavour”. Good ratio of jasmine to green base, also. Kind of sweet, like honeysuckles. Not the best jasmine pearl I’ve ever had but it’s also FAR from being the worst.

Thanks to SuperStarling! for this tea. Upon looking up this tea, I was ready to write it off. The whole premise and website seemed a bit gimmicky? I’m not sure that is the right word. Not that there is anything wrong with “character” or “themed” teas or things. I rather enjoy that normally. But, I have found, if the product is good enough, cutesy gimmicks aren’t needed.
This, I’m happy to report, proved that theory wrong. This is a wonderfully balanced oolong, hovering between roast and slightly fruity. Nothing too strong or bitter about this. A very pleasant surprise, indeed.

This tea’s webpage implores you to “brace yourself” for “an imposing beast” that “leaves scorched remnants of other Chai teas far below ferocious wings.”

There is nothing I don’t love about this tea. I love the name, love the packaging, love the tea! I don’t drink unflavored teas that often but this tea proves to me that I need to. Such a fabulous tea. Raisin like with malty touches. No astringency. Just a smooth well balanced tea that I have been drinking every day for the past week. So Good!

That was what sold me. After vacation I’m picking up the other two blends. I’m addicted to Wendigo Tea.
Awesome artwork. And they had me suckered in at “golden monkey” so I will also be purchasing in the near future. After I recover from my Mandala purchase. :)
