Health-ade releases some really interesting kombucha flavours, but they’re pretty challenging to find here in Montreal. However, I recently discovered a new 24 hour convenience store that carries a bunch of their staple offerings.

I have wanted to try this particular flavour for almost four years now – I love Pink Lady Apples and I just had such a strong gut feeling (no pun intended, since it’s a kombucha) that they would be able to deliver on an accurate pink lady profile. Well, the kombucha lives up to the anticipation!! They manage to really get the balance right of pleasantly sour top notes with a sweet, juicy mid-sip and a very crisp finish. It tasted exactly like everything I would have wanted and was one of the best kombuchas I’ve had in a long time. I mean, it’s such a pure play on this one hyper specific flavour and they nail it.

We tried quite a bit of kombucha and truthfully this might have been my least favourite one. It’s not that it was bad, but it just didn’t feel like the taste was accurate to the name or product description to me. They describe it as very rosy and floral, but I thought the taste was honestly pretty sour and tart and the strongest flavour for me was easily the hawthorn in the mix. I drank it, but I felt let down a bit by it and I don’t think I’d purchase again.

Opened this up on Christmas Eve to drink and I ended up dumping it down the sink after trying it. Cheerful this was not. It tasted like straight-up apple cider vinegar and while I love a vinegary kombucha this was not for me. I also could taste cloves but nothing else flavor-wise stuck out. I need to remember next year not to buy this one…

Tastes like crisp, sweet, cinnamon-y apple cider, with a bite of that delightfully piquant fermentation that’s characteristic of kombucha. It’s expensive to buy, but way too high maintenance to get a piece of a SCOBY and make it myself… so it’s definitely a treat, but I do love a nice midafternoon ’bucha to pick me up and carry me through the rest of the work day!

Monday 04/05/21 — Health-Ade Pink Lady Apple. My boyfriend has been loving the homemade kombucha after one of his relatives gave him a starter jar + SCOBY + etc. for the holidays. Anyway, I’ve done a few Instacart orders to get some different flavors to try out (and then reuse the glass bottles). I had this one at work this afternoon with 6 or so hours of sleep (after a 12 hour shift last night then on an 8-hour shift). I have a headache which I don’t get often so maybe this wasn’t a great idea to drink. It was fine but nothing special that I’d want to repeat. I think I would like to try more unique flavors either form the packaged drinks or even cafes that have their own on tap/bottled.
