I used not to be a fan of raw puerh, but since I visited Yunnan and learned more about it, I’ve suddenly realised why I didn’t like it before… all the raw stuff you could get in the UK was really bad quality because we weren’t prepared to pay enough. But this is really tasty, with a smooth sweet flavour, edgy but not insecure, with a push on the finish and a long lingering flavour. A raw PuErh that doesn’t take the back of your throat off. I brewed this in a Bodum Assam 0.5L teapress and got 5 brews out of 3 grams of tea, so that’s about 6p per mug. Not bad, really!

Beats a Darjeeling any day in my view. Less bitter and a far more interesting flavour I reckon.

I’m thoroughly enjoying my sample pack from First Class Teas. I’m not sure I’ve perfected the brewing technique though.

So much better than whole leaf peppermints I reckon, because you get more punch out of the leaves. Working late, and needed a brain revitaliser.

Something great about peppermint for getting the brain back in gear. And I need it too… long day.

A friend of mine visited and wanted to try this so we had a pot or three. Not being my usual drink, I was reminded how enjoyable and refreshing the tea is, and particularly good with a pâté sandwich!

Didn’t log the last 3 rebrews, but they were a real journey. Now happiness is complete (and the yunnan is in the compost bin – we put our tea leaves on the camellias in the garden.)

Completely in love with Yunnan Gold teas – it never ceases to amaze me how much strength you can get out of a bunch of buds – brilliant.

Awesome.

Good darjeeling, will look forward to selecting from the 2009 second flush pickings in June – let’s see if Ambootia can keep up the quality!
