7 Tasting Notes
I had this tea made for me at the DavidsTEA at the mall using the free tea coupon my sister had given me.
I had had this tea before – in the advent calendar – so I was aware of its issue. You have to steep it forever. After 5 minutes it has an aroma, but the flavour is weak until you’ve steeped it for 10+. Luckily, my tea stayed hot for a nice long time and when I finally drank it it had a nice mild flavour I could enjoy.
I don’t think I would ever by this tea though. It’s quite heavily, I feel like I’d end up using a lot of tea per cup and the flavour obtained is mild.
Flavors: Nuts
Preparation
This is one of my morning staples. I brew it according to directions – 1.25tsp/240mL, 96C, 4-7 minutes and it always comes out great. I drink it with milk but you need to be careful because too much milk waters out the flavours. I will brew the leaves a second time and find that it quite drinkable a second time around.
Flavors: Bergamot
Preparation
This witty little creature sits on the edge of your cup and brews away. Definitely best for teas that don’t expand too much as he’s not the voluminous – especially if you’re like me and like to make large cups!
He’s also good for larger tea pots – just throw him in and he’ll float just like a real manatee.
Made out of silicone, he can be tricky to empty into a compost bin but is simple to clean out with water.
What I like about this tea is that you can brew it to match your mood. For work, I would brew this tea with two butterflies to a large coffee mug (probably 12oz). Here at home, I use half the recommended amount – 1.25tsp to 480mL.
The tea is floral and heavily scented upon a first steeping. The second steeping is weak but drinkable.
