I don’t mind cleaning the slots in the glass infuser with a toothbrush IF I have enjoyed the rooibus-infused liquor which passed through them. After these cups, I minded. If you must know more about my encounter with this cursed abomination, read my earlier tasting note. A blend is not necessarily better than, or even equal to, its ingredients, this being a case in point.
P.S. It’s the green rooibus. It just tastes nasty to me. Tastes so different than regular, red, fermented rooibus! After that 2nd bad experience, I put the ToLife tea in a screen colander and sifted out the rooibus. What was left was better stuff, in my book.

Oh man scrubbing with a toothbrush is BRUTAL! I hate when that happens, especially with a low qual tea :(

Oh, it’s not that difficult, just a few swipes under running water. I just enjoy complaining. But try jamming anything else in those spaces, to clean them, and see how fast you break your glass infuser.

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with this tea, but your mention of green rooibos as opposed to red is making me wonder if I’d have the same reaction to it. I’ve never been able to get into red rooibos, and the few rooibos teas that I haven’t minded too much have been green ones. Then again, rooibos and jasmine?!

Paper works. So does thread. I haven’t broken glass infusers while cleaning them, so if you don’t like the toothbrush, there are some alternatives.

Haha I am still rocking the tea kettle and plastic infuser ;)

Pamela Dean

@fcmonroe OK, floss the glass! And paper, that’s a good one. Must be while things are dry, though, huh? Thanks!

Note: I’m open to offers to swap tea samples. If you can’t message me, just comment on one of my tea notes, and I’ll respond.

I am fascinated and deeply impressed by the artistry and skill which coaxes such an array of qualities from one species of leaf. In 2009, I founded San Antonio Tea & Herb Enthusiasts. In 2014, a move to Southern California creates both upheaval and new horizons. The best part is that now I live quite close to my son and his family.

For intimate tastings with a small gathering, I’m practicing Asian-style tea service along the lines of Chinese gongfu cha. It is a joy to share good tea!

The most recent sign of my conversion to the deeply-steeped side: I’ve turned three large file boxes into “tea humidors” for aging pu-erh cakes and bricks at 65% humidity. Remote sensors within the “pumidors” relay the temperature and humidity readings to a base station on my desk. It satisfies my scientist aspect and keeps tea pretty well, too.
