I’ve been a silent lurker on this site for awhile, but this tea finally made me sign up!
Now, before I start, I’m a HUGE fan of David’s Tea. Like, whole cupboard filled and then some. I’m not an overly picky person nor a type of fancy tea connoisseur, so this is coming from just your average tea drinker.
With that aside, this tea was pretty well undrinkable, even for me!
Since grilled pineapple is one of my most fave additions to the grill in the summer, I was excited to ask for this flavor as a Christmas present. I had missed out on it during the summer, and it seems my local store still had it in stock.
Upon opening the container, you get a sort of musky, bold pineapple smell. Not totally bad, but a little off putting. I figured it was just the smell of the dried tea , so I shrugged and continued on. As it steeped, the aroma became stronger. I found myself wrinkling up my nose in disgust a little. It smelt like someone ran over a pineapple in a high speed car chase! Very potent smell of burnt sugar, like you’d smell on a grill after cooking some kind of sugary marinade.
Again, sorta just shrugged it off and took a sip. At first you’re hit with a sweeter pineapple taste, then you get a smokey, charred to a crisp finished. I nearly spat my tea all over my computer screen. Normally, grilled pineapple is absolutely delicious, but in drinking form?? Ugh, awful! It tastes extremely artificial. I can see where they were going with the flavors, but this did noooot translate well in my opinion. So in combination with the horrid smell, and very odd flavoring, this tea is defiantly not a buy for me.
I’m going to try and put it in my smoothies in the morning just to get rid of it, but besides that, never again!! Sorry David’s tea! This was a total strike out!
