21 Tasting Notes
I was prepared to not like this tea, after all the reviews, but I was looking for another mate to try and since it was Teavana’s Heavenly Sale, I pulled the trigger. I’m new to loose tea’s and Teavana has been my gateway. I’m still figuring out a lot on what makes a good loose tea experience, but here are my impressions:
First Smell:
Citrus with something else, not quite savory not quite spicy.
First cup:
I used 2 tsp for a test 8oz glass. There was a large chunk of orange peel so I added a tad more and added a couple pieces of rock sugar. I was a bit sloppy on the timing, so it steeped for at least 6 minutes.
First Impression:
Yep, that’s mango. There is the orange peel, but not too tart. Oh, now following is the sweet, and then something a little spicy. Ginger and something else, the curry perhaps? I can see the light chai reference here. I like chai, especially the more mellow ones. I did not get hit with overwhelming curry smell or taste. There may be a hint of it I am detecting as a late note, but I don’t find it overwhelming. I do wonder if my bag or what went into my cup was just more of the fruit.
As the tea cools, I’m noticing the spice more. I like it though. I can see blending this with other fruity herbals, or to add fruit taste to some of my more spicy teas.
I wonder how the next cups with be. I have other teavana teas that depending how many fruit chunks (or hibiscus) gets in can really change the profile.
So for my first “note”, its a pleasant one!
