3 Tasting Notes

So I had two cups of this tea today, the first prepared at 195ºF and steeped for 2 minutes, the second resteeped at the same temp for 3 minutes. The aroma of jasmine in the first cup was very strong and it had a nip of astringency to it, but still one of the best cups of tea I have ever had. The second cup however, is where this tea really shines. Resteeping the leaves toned down the jasmine and let some of the more delicate tea aroma come into play, also any trace of astringency was gone. The taste was a little muted (as is expected) but still amazing!

I read some of the other reviews of this tea and I think maybe I prepared it wrong. For the first couple of sips it was really bitter but then it mellowed out and the Jasmine was really prominent and both the scent and the taste was delightful. It was a very smooth clean taste to me unlike the earthiness of some of the blacks and oolongs I’ve tried. The pack said 3-5 minutes at 195, I had to estimate the temp by bringing it to boiling and waiting a minute and steeped for 4 mins. I’ll try resteeping (since someone said it resteeps really well) and for less time, see if that takes out the early bitterness.

So, I’m not super experienced in the tea world (the only other loose leaf teas I’ve tried were an English Breakfast tea and a Matcha at a friends tea ceremony), but this tea was absolutely delicious! The fragrance of the jasmine is potent but not overpowering and lasts from the first to last sip. I did find that it took a little more than the recommended volume of tea leaves to bring out the full flavor and it took the full two minutes to steep, but it is well worth the wait…and weight, haha. The light flavor and aroma makes it a perfect anytime tea.
