I got this tea as a free sample with a recent online order. I was shocked at how much I liked it. The thought of a tea with cinnamon, cloves, and peppercorns put me off for a long time and boy was I missing out. It has just the right amount of spice without being overwhelming and the sweetness/fruitiness of the coconut helps to even the flavour out. I’m not sure this would be something I could drink large quantities of but it is really good as an occasional tea. I would consider purchasing a smaller amount of this tea but I don’t think I’d buy a big tin of it.

Advent calendar day 6. For the first time this year with the advent calendar, I can say that I actually really liked this tea. It smells sweet and like apples. I’ve never tasted apple cider in my life (that I can remember) because I am allergic to caramel so I can’t say whether or not it tastes like apple cider. Either way, this tea is great. It has a light apple flavour and isn’t super sweet. I added some maple sugar sprinkles and that improved the flavour a lot. I would consider purchasing this tea as it is something I can see myself craving and wanting often.

drank Coffee Cake by DAVIDsTEA

Advent calendar day 5. I made this tea in my travel mug last night on the way out the door. I was first alarmed by the instant smell of caramel (I am allergic to caramel) but checked the ingredients and supposedly there isn’t any in this tea. It doesn’t smell or taste anything like coffee cake. I also didn’t get any fruitiness or cherry flavour like the package says which is unfortunate. The first word that comes to mind to describe this tea is meh. I didn’t like it, I didn’t dislike it, it was just okay. DavidsTea has many other teas I would much rather drink so I am going to skip this one from now on.

Advent calendar day 4. Finally, a tea that was easy to drink. It smells divine, tart with some lavender and it kind of reminds me of Pink Lemonade. The first sip was okay. It wasn’t amazing but there wasn’t anything wrong with it. The tartness from the smell carried over but it needed something. I added quite a bit of agave and it was much better. I think this one would be really good iced but I used the entire amount from the advent calendar up. I don’t think I’ll go out of my way to have this again or purchase it, but it was the best tea of the advent calendar so far.

First review on this tea! I picked up 50 g to try with my last online order on Black Friday. Wow. Holy moly ginger. Seriously, the ginger is real here. The tea smells sweet (it almost reminds me of the smell of Quince Charming) but tastes very much the opposite. The pear is hardly detectable except in the smell of the tea. Other than that, if I was given a blind taste test, I’d never guess there was anything in this tea other than ginger. It wasn’t the worst tea I’ve ever had but it also isn’t good either. I won’t be drinking much of this tea, or drinking it often, but I will use it up. Maybe I can find a way to make it better. I also won’t be repurchasing and won’t be sad when it’s gone.

drank Candy Cane Crush by DAVIDsTEA

I’ve been wanting to try this tea since I heard it was going to be December TOTM a few months ago. It sounded like something that was right up my alley, and it is. I picked up 100 g of this tea during the buy 2 100 g tins get 100 g of a third free. Opening up the tin, it smells like a crushed up candy cane which was a good start. When I brewed it, the white chocolate and sprinkles melted to give the tea a creamy, light brown colour. This tea tastes pretty much exactly how it sounds and smells. It has a creamy taste to it and the candy cane flavor is more pronounced than the white chocolate. I couldn’t even tell this was a black tea, which was totally fine for me. I am glad I have 100 g of this tea because it is really good and I will be sad when it leaves. It is a shame this tea is so heavy though since 100 g only fills about half the tin.

Advent calendar day 3. When I first brewed this tea, it smelled instantly like badly burnt popcorn. Not a good start, especially after the previous 2 advent calendar days. I brewed it for exactly 3 minutes as not to oversteep and it turns out that was the right call. I can tell that this tea would get bitter very quickly. The first few sips were a light green tea flavour with some light notes of toasted rice. It wasn’t especially great, but it wasn’t terrible either. Then, as I worked my way through the cup, the aftertaste of burnt popcorn invaded my mouth and clung to my tongue. Even after chugging water and milk, I can’t get rid of it. Seriously, day 4 has to only be better, right?

Advent Calendar day 2. When I saw that this tea had coffee in it, I knew the odds of me liking it were slim to none because I cannot stand the taste of coffee. The first few sips were okay. I didn’t taste much coffee and instead got a vanilla taste with some notes of white chocolate. I only wish it had stayed that way. Then, the strong coffee aftertaste began to take over and I knew that I was in trouble. I couldn’t even finish my cup. Here’s to hoping the rest of the advent calendar is more to my taste.

drank Snow Day by DAVIDsTEA

Day 1 of the advent calendar. The tiny snowflakes are so cute. This tea smells very strongly of mint both dry and while steeping. It tastes like predominantly strong peppermint and the chocolate fades in to the background which is unfortunate. I enjoyed my cup but it’s not something I would want to drink a lot of or often. I won’t be purchasing this tea.

I tried this tea as a free tea in store today. They still had it on the tea wall from Halloween. It smells cinnamony and sweet. Hot, with agave, it is amazing. Chocolatey with just the right touch of vanilla and cinnamon. I would definitely consider purchasing and am sad this is limited edition and discontinued. I found that it didn’t oversteep and the longer I steeped it, the better and the richer the flavour.
ETA- I recently picked up 100 g of this on sale in store. I have no regrets and will enjoy this tea while I have it.

Bio

I started drinking tea in 2016 after trying the 2015 DavidsTea advent calendar. I fell in love and my relationship with tea only escalated from there. I now am a drinker of hot and iced teas and have recently expanded to hot and iced lattes. I have yet to explore the world of matcha though. Most of my teas are from DavidsTea but I am open to trying most loose leaf teas. My preferred sweetener is agave (I only use when needed) and my favourite types of teas are herbal, fruit, chocolate, and rooibos.
