We stayed in a fancy B&B that had Harney and Sons teas and I was really bored with all of them except this one. It’s one of the few Earl Greys that can get strong enough to stand up to milk and sugar without coming off as perfumy.

Just not as strong as I like it. I bought a big box of this on sale at British Delights and then gave it to my mom who doesn’t take milk with her tea. She loved it.

Went through so many little pouches of this that I bought a giant amount and now I’m afraid I’ll never get through it. Oh well. Every once in a while I get the urge for Lasang and this fits the bill nicely. A strong smoky scent and a very light tasting tea.

White tea antioxidants with black tea flavor? Sign me up. This tea is genius. It is so close to classic British black tea, and is strong enough to stand up to milk and sugar. I drink this when I don’t want too much caffeine but want the comforting taste of a nice cuppa.

Couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting as good of a cup out of the loose leaf as I was from the bags. I think it just boils down to (see what I did there?) the bags being really strong. I usually put one tsp of tea, plus one for the pot with loose leaf, but I think I just need an extra teaspoon or two. This tea is cut very fine, which is what allows it to steep so quickly, but that is a problem with the loose leaf as more of it gets through my strainer. Still, this is the quintessential English tea for milk and sugar.

I first bought this tea for a camping trip in Joshua Tea because it was the only tea in the little grocery where we provisioned. It’s pretty good and it always reminds me of that trip. For some reason I can’t find this anywhere lately. I almost bought the really over priced cloth bags at Starbucks just to have some on hand. I like it with a little honey.

I agree with the “too lemony” crowd on this. I tried this at a cafe and ended up putting about three tablespoons of honey in it before it was drinkable. Not a ringing endorsement. I did like the idea of the tea though, so I made a mixture of green tea (gunpowder as it’s dirt cheap in the Asian markets) mate, and mint. I used a 2-1 green tea to mate ratio. It is a nice digestive tea, for evening and has little caffeine. I guess it’s detoxifying because the mate and the green tea are diuretics.

OK I freely admit that I bought this tea because it had a little mustachioed Bolshevik on the tin. They have since ditched that packaging, I see. I drank the tea, never really wanted any more of it, but kept the tin with the bolshevik. I remember it reminding me of Constant Comment. Like really expensive Constant Comment with ace packaging. Actually I quite like constant comment in a nostalgic sort of way and I’m sure at Christmas this year my mom will serve it with krumbkakka and it’ll be like the 70s all up in there.
