From white2tea

Anhua heicha, also known as dark tea, a post fermented tea from Hunan province in China. Tian jian is a high grade production of Anhua heicha that contains younger leaves and buds. This production was made on commission for white2tea in 2021 and pressed in 2022.

Lively tea with bright notes of tobacco and spice poured over a syrupy sweet intensity that it excellent for a fresh daily heicha lover. Convenient tea to take on the go or when you don’t want to mess with a big basket of heicha.

Each purchase is for one ~ 7 gram ball.

*DON’T BE AFRAID OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE INCREDIBLY TIGHT COMPRESSION, TIAN JIAN CAN ONLY BE PRESSED USING VERY TIGHT COMPRESSION OR THE LEAVES WON’T STICK TOGETHER (THEY’RE NOT QUITE AS TACKY AS TEAS YOU MIGHT BE FAMILIAR WITH LIKE RAW PUER). A ONE MINUTE BOILING RINSE AND A SLIGHTLY LONGER THAN AVERAGE FIRST STEEP OPENS THIS LITTLE TEA BALL RIGHT UP.

Grandpa style!

I’ve never really seen compressed heicha like this before, so of course I had to try it. The little mini is so cute; much smaller and more compact than an average dragonball and with a more perfectly smooth and marble like shape!! Steeped grandpa style, the taste is less dark than expected and almost syrupy in mouthfeel with notes of wet grass, dark chocolate covered nuts of some kind, and pipe tobacco – but all tinged with a golden syrup sweetness. Sweet tobacco is a little strange to my palate in the way its presented here, but not in an offensive way – just one of those flavours that makes you stop and think. A lot.
