I do really enjoy this tea. It reminds me of being back in England, where there’s blackcurrant-flavored things everywhere. And of pubs, and my first taste of lager & blackcurrant. So I’ll spend this pot imagining I’m back on the balcony of the flat at Knaresborough, and put off the real world for just a bit longer.

Brewed up 3 bags of this with 12 oz boiling water to serve over a cup of ice. This is enjoyable iced, however the currant flavor is tasting quite artificial. It might be the splenda I used to flavor the cup without tasting the plain tea prior to adding. I think this would do better without the splenda. I will rate once I try it with no additives.

Bleagh! Ugh! YUCK!

I don’t know what I did wrong but this is just nasty. Blackcurrant Tea smells about right – fruity and rich – but it tastes AWFUL. I can’t even describe the yuck, except that I don’t want any more of it.

I can’t believe I’m taking another sip, but I’m trying to figure out why I think it’s so nasty. It just tastes bad. Almost sour and earthy. It honestly makes me think of vomit. Maybe that’s just my body telling me what it wants to do if I don’t stop drinking it.

At any rate, ugh. I don’t like this tea at all!

My guess? -the dreaded hibiscus. It’s used (or rather over-used) as a flavouring agent in a lot of fruit teas made by larger tea-bag companies like Stash and Celestial Seasonings. Basically it’s a cheap way for them to semi-replicate ‘tart’ fruit flavours.

I know it’s hardly the best tea in the world, but this and Constant Comment evoke warm, fuzzy memories. That can’t be bad, surely? :)

When properly brewed, and taken with a little milk and sugar, this tea is actually really fantastic. It’s like dessert with caffeine, and it got me through many a looooong day spent in Technical Services when I used to work in an academic library. It brought some much-needed sweetness to cold, dusty afternoons. Although there have been plenty of teas before and since that have been better, this is still immensely comfortable. Like an old plush bathrobe. It may not be pretty to anyone else, but you’ll still wear it around your house and feel utterly at home while wearing it.

I am a bit disappointed by this tea. It is fruity, smooth, and sweet. Seems like it would be great, but something about this tea just doesn’t taste right to me. Maybe I don’t like blackcurrant. Maybe it’s too sweet. Maybe the flavor is just a hint too artificial for me. Maybe I would like it iced instead of hot. It’s just not my cup of tea.

Prepared hot with 200°F water for 5 minutes.

This has been my favorite tea now for over ten years. I get sad when I run out! My local grocery store doesn’t always carry it, so I usually order it in multiple boxes online. It’s a nice strong black tea with a confident blackcurrant flavor addition- sigh, wish it came in decaf so I could drink it at night, too. I always drink it black; sugar would be okay but can’t imagine adding milk.
