From Thunderbolt Tea

Arya Moonbeam, the name sounds fancy and people may think that its a marketing strategy applied, but in the true sense, Moonbeam tea leaves gets picked during the very early hours in the morning time when the dews are still on the tea leaves, when we are still half way into our dreams in the comfort of our cozy beds and when the moon is still visible even if its the break of dawn. Moonbeam though less known, is one Darjeeling Tea which has excelled in quality, be it appearance or the cup. This doesn’t form the line of Arya’s Jewel Darjeeling Teas, but this addition is one special grade that every tea connoisseur should try in order to taste a really high grade Darjeeling. This Darjeeling Second Flush 2012’s production is no ordinary. We bet you will like it :)
Arya Moonbeam Dry Leaves:

The overall appearance of this Second Flush 2012 Arya Moonbeam bears an attractive bloom. It is well rolled, slender and twisted. Most of the dry tea leaves are covered in fine silver and golden hairs. There are ample number of tips most of which are golden buds. It has a remarkable fruity aroma which comes linked with warm and rich malty notes. It is also nutty like that of almonds and caramelic in characteristics. It has an overwhelming sweet honey like essence.
Arya Moonbeam Infusion or Wet Leaves:

A lively brown-coppery infusion. The soaked silver or golden hairs give it a definite shine resulting in a lovely bright infusion. It has a sweet nose which comes accompanied with warm nutty and fruity essence. As you inhale you tend to experience its freshness, that is sweet and welcoming. Some mild pastry like notes can be experienced as well.

Arya Moonbeam Cup or Liqour:

As reminiscent of any Second Flush Darjeeling Tea, the cup turns more towards a reddish hue. The cup is full bodied, smooth and refreshing. It has an invigorating sweetness accompanied by lovely taste of roasted almonds. It has a lively brisk taste that sparkles and bursts in the mouth – this burst transforms into a buttery effect and fills the mouth. Some lovely complex mixture of fruity characteristics can be noticed. The butteriness lingers enhanced by some sweetness and forms the aftertaste of this excellent tea.

Arya Moonbeam – cup

Arya Moonbeam is one high grade 2012 Darjeeling Second Flush Tea which in no way should be missed by any tea connoisseur. Experience the sublime and know thyself! We are 100% sure that you will not be disappointed.

Weird…Steepster doesn’t seem to like the picture of this particular second flush Darjeeling. Oh well…(le shrug)

Took me awhile to get up and moving today, even after feeding the pets. As I write this, I’m still in my pajamas. (I know, shocker.) I decided to notch off one of the new Arya estate teas I received from Thunderbolt. This one wasn’t a part of their coveted “Jewel” series, but that was no matter.

It certainly was jewel-worthy, though, imparting (or rather, throwing) everything it possibly could at my tongue: toastiness, nutmeg, buckwheat, malt, cocoa, caramel, muscatel, rose wine, nut-sweetness, kitchen sinks, unicorns, et al.

It’s funny that I’m on a Darjeeling kick in the Fall, but I ain’t turnin’ back.

I’ve been negligent about writing reviews. I’ve had my Thunderbolt order for about two weeks and haven’t written about the teas yet. Saturday is a nice day to sip through the teas and write reviews.

The aroma is fairly powerful, but soft, reminding me of damp forest leaves. That flavor continues in the taste, but with hints of herb and fruit. I tend to think of Darjeelings as being delicate, but this is a big, powerful tea. There is some astringency but without bitterness. There is a smooth transition into a long and powerful finish without bitterness.

The previous time I drank this tea, I steeped at boiling temperature, which gave a more fruity flavor that I preferred. Good either way. I also noted that it tasted good at room temperature. I only drink iced tea in the summer, but I think this would make a good iced tea.

This one was surprising. The first sip seemed somewhat malty, but then after that it was all fruit. Super fruit. Amazing fruit.

MzPriss’ Unflavored Tea Box – Tea #15
This was a decent Darjeeling, though they usually don’t go well for me. I’d say I like this one more than most. Oddly enough, this one tasted like butternut squash, just like the other tea I tried today. Creamy buttery butternut squash with hints of lemon. I probably should have used two teaspoons of 1 1/2 but I didn’t want to hog all of the leaves from the teabox… and my basket steeper was occupied anyway. I wish I had more to say about this one.
