From Taiwan Tea Crafts

For many of our customers, there seems to be one tea that spells springtime; and it’s this one! This is the tea that generates the most messages inquiring about its pending availability. Well, your patience will be well rewarded with this 2021 offering! Despite the drought conditions that affects all of the tea growing regions of Taiwan, once again, the craftsmanship of Mr. Ong has produced a generous tea that is exuberant and joyous, with a touch of sophistication. Just like sipping a bouquet of flowers! The aroma of buttered green beans with distinctive floral overtones is definitely there. Nothing aggresses the senses. The liqueur is smooth, refreshing, and very pleasant. As usual, we reserve the tea made from the highest section of his garden (see picture) and, as it is now customary with his teas, Yuwen, our Tea Maker, has put her signature on this Lot 1025 by very lightly baking the tea when receiving it. You see, between the time we selected the tea on the day it was made and the moment we receive it, the tea was sent to sorting to remove the stems and imperfect leaves. This takes a few weeks where the tea may not be stored properly and humidity may be absorbed by the leaves resulting in a dull tasting tea. Light-baking will re-kindle the delicate flavours and aroma of this tea and help seal-in its freshness by drying the leaves. This also adds a very pleasant almond-like finish and taste. This way, the tea will keep its crisp refreshing charm longer and keep better when stored in your cupboard. This is our way of honouring Mr. Ong’s craftsmanship and enhancing your enjoyment of his fine tea! Don’t delay getting some: our signature Wenshan Bao Zhong has garnered a strong following through the years and we always run out fairly quickly!

Last spring’s Lot 930 sold out in a record time. With 2021’s lower yields, we have even less tea to offer this year, we anticipate to break lasts year record. We highly recommend to the numerous fans of this tea to stock up now.

After a string of subpar Baozhongs recently, this spring’s harvest has once again restored my faith in this tea. It’s deliciously fresh and teeming with complex florals.

As I always do with baozhongs, I brewed this one grandpa style. The leaves emit a very fragrant aroma of hyacinth, lilac, and violet. The tea has an exquisite floral flavor. At first sip, I’m greeted by sweet lilacs followed by granny smith apple and lingering flower nectar. Fresh. Mouth coating. Really smooth and luscious.

When my cup got down to 1/3, I topped it off with boiling water. This dropped all of the leaves and produced a brighter green color. New floral notes of orchid appeared in my cup along with melon and sweet pea making the tea more luscious and perfumey.

Enjoyed this one immensely!
