From New Mexico Tea Company

This gorgeous, expressive white tea offers a range of flavors across multiple infusions. While a new-leaf silver bud tea is always delicate, the nuances of bark, stone fruit, mineral, dewy hay, sunflower seed, bright citrus, and sweet orchid florals are each present in the aroma and flavor arc. Experimenting with slight variations of steep time and temperature will highlight different notes!
Extra Info:
Nepali teas are revered for their purity and distinctiveness. Zero pollution, extreme elevation, and drastic temperature changes all create ideal conditions for flavorful tea.

Only the fine unopened buds are carefully hand-plucked and allowed to dry naturally. The moisture slowly evaporates leaving behind shiny silver buds with fine hairs surrounding. The fine hairs are called trichomes and they protect the new leaves on the tea plant. Since the buds are not fully grown into tea leaves, silver needles tend to have much more of these fur than other teas.

White teas are the least processed of all teas, especially silver needles tea, which go through virtually no processing at all. This might as well be the purest form of all teas. While the process is quite simple, the meticulous precision and timing in plucking from very special bushes is what makes silver needles one of the most expensive and prized teas. The special thing about Himalayan silver needles is that the bushes that it comes from are very young, less than 50 years old. This gives a unique fresh floral brew that is quite unmatched.

This was what I chose as a sample with my small order — thanks, New Mexico Tea Co! I’m always looking for great white teas… it’s always good to have a handful of those in the collection. I LOVED the name of this one, and the image on the pouch was perfect for it too. I had three great steeps with this one — it started a little like creamed corn. Then steeps two and three could have fooled me in a blind test… it was like drinking two cups of milk. Surprisingly, despite the hairy inspired name of this tea, trichomes didn’t really make themselves apparent here. I’m surprised how delicate the flavor was, even on that third steep. It’s a friendly yeti.
Steep #1 // 1 1/2 – 2 teaspoons for a full mug // 40 minutes after boiling // 1 minute steep
Steep #2 // 30 minutes after boiling // 2 minute steep
Steep #3 // 10 min after boiling // 3-4 min

Flavors: Cream, Milk, Sweet Corn
