This year, the annual awards ceremony for my husband’s work was held at the Four Seasons. After the awards ceremony and dinner, they offered tea and coffee with some fabulous desserts. This individually packaged tea bag was my winnings for the evening (along with a few other tea bags stashed in my purse for later). ;) I can’t help myself! When I see tea, I just go klepto!

The dry leaf aroma is dripping juicy guava and strawberry. Yum! The tea liquor is light amber colored and smells mainly of green tea with a generic fruitiness. I have to say the dry leaf aroma was much fruitier and more appetizing than the brewed tea aroma. But on to the taste!

Hmm, this is kind of unexpected. The beginning of the sip is green tea, but then it morphs in your mouth and there’re tons of fruity flavors by the time the aftertaste hits! I’m getting largely pineapple here, which is funny, because that fruit wasn’t apparent in the scent at all. There’s still a good level of guava, but now the strawberry is somewhat elusive.

There’s also something a little off in the cup, but it only appears at the beginning of the sip and doesn’t linger. I think it might be whatever the flower petals are contributing. The floral element doesn’t seem to mesh well with the fruits. But overall, this is a good fruity green tea, especially considering it’s bagged. I’m glad I had the opportunity to try another Mighty Leaf Tea!

Tea #33 from Another Traveling Tea Box

I’m really glad someone double bagged this tea, it has such a strong scent to it that I wasn’t really expecting that when I opened the package. The first thing I notice upon sipping the brewed tea, surprisingly, is the green tea base. As strong as the tropical fruit scent was, I was expecting to taste it first as well. The tropical flavors really stand out with the pineapple and guava being most noticeable, but I had a hard time picking out the strawberry that was listed in the ingredients. Then the bitterness comes, I wasn’t expecting any bitterness considering that I brewed this at 175°F. I probably would have enjoyed this had it not been so bitter, hopefully an extended stay in the fridge tones that down a little.

“Another Traveling Tea Box?!?!”

Fresh, buttery green tea base. I can taste pineapple and guava. Flavoring is light, but forward. A really nice blend!

Number 25 from Another Travelling tea box.

The dry tea has a very strong fruit aroma; I see why it was double-bagged. The nose is totally dominated by the fruit. I’ll assume that it smells like passion fruit – definitely a tropical flavor. The taste is more balanced, with a straw flavor along-side the fruit. The finish is all tea, and slightly bitter.

After drinking about a third of a cup, I added sweetener. This improved the taste quite a bit, in my opinion, bringing the fruit forward and eliminating the bitterness at the end. My rating is based on the sweetened tea.

Pretty decent re-steep.

I’m trying to make more of an effort to drink my greens, so I picked this out to try this afternoon. I’ve tried a few tropical greens, and this is admittedly one of the nicer ones despite being bagged. I was surprised to see strawberry in the ingredients list, as I don’t tend to think of strawberry as a “tropical” fruit. I couldn’t taste is at all, either, although I wasn’t concentrating too hard due to being at work. So distracting! I did get pineapple and guava, though, both very easily identifiable and beautifully juicy. The temperature has been approaching 30 again today, so this was a pleasantly refreshing afternoon cup. No bitterness or astringency from the green tea base, either.

The back of the sachet claims that I’ll be “whisked off into the ease of life sans care” while drinking this tea. I won’t go so far as to say that I was without care (work, ugh!), but it certainly cheered up what might have been a miserable afternoon at work (on my own, having to deal with everyone’s phone and emails as well as my own workload, on a hot day, with plenty of complaining going on). A little tropical brightness really was just the thing!
