Mint Cacao Tea

yep…still prefer just plain ol’ cacao from HI…though HI’s customer service and communication with their customers is so awful, it’s hard to justify either. I’m actively looking for an alternative to their cacao as a result. this one is mint and chocolate but it’s watery and wimpy. so meh. even after a 15 min steep

Fairly tasty chocolate mint tea, pretty much like mint hot chocolate. Yummers. The mint, however, covers up some of the chocolate goodness, so it’s not as obviously a better chocolate flavour than… chocolate flavour in other mint chocolate blends, so I’d be torn as to whether I’d want something like this when I could have a more easily obtainable mint chocolate rooibos. That said, there is definitely no funky rooibos flavour, which is a plus. I suppose, however, that this may not be caffeine-free, since chocolate does contain caffeine?

Ohh my goodness is this ever good. Haha, the dry smell in the bag was very minty chocolate, reminding me of an After Eight..chocolates that I really enjoy. I steeped for 5 and a half minutes again, and was a bit worried, as the initial smell of the water on the leaves was kind of weird, a strange vegetal mint scent..not very nice. But after steeping, it smells like milky, buttery chocolate with mint, very happy it straightened out!

As for the flavor, yeah, this one is just so buttery milk chocolate tasting. And I love mint, so the mint is wonderful in here! Not quite an After Eight, as it’s more herbal tasting, but the peppermint is good and the cacao shines in this blend. I almost like this one a bit more than the original..haha I will have to compare them! Not tonight though, can’t have that much cacao in one day!

Woah! I like this! I actually prefer the straight Tisano cacao over the herbal infusions one, maybe cause I overleaf that one like mad since I can get it free overnight on amazon (Herbal infusions seems to take awhile). BUT… I definitely prefer this mint cacao over the Tisano one. That one is wayyyyyyyyy too minty. This one is perfect! Just enough mint to give a nice flavor but not enough to drown out the chocolate. A nice after dinner treat. I dumped my whole sample into the mug as I like to seriously overleaf the cacao teas. Glad I did. Very full and rich.

Note: I really wish tea companies, especially those with unusual offerings such as this one, provided some form of steeping suggestions. I’m sending a note to Dan now to ask him if they can both put some on the website, and offer me some as well to post here. I have the same complaint with 52 Teas, BTW.. and the only complaints I have.

Onto the tea! I was surprised at just how much cacao there is in here. Amazing, beautiful and delicious (yes, I tasted some). It smells like rich chocolate (as it should, it is!) and steeps up smelling similarly with a hint of mint.

Straight, I get mint first (very lightly) followed by cocoa. It’s dry like a dry red wine the cacao, and I really like it. I want more. I also want to sweeten it though, because that’s what everyone seems to say is how this should be enjoyed. And so, I do.

As I mix in the Truvia, the smell of cacao wafts up yet again. YUM. It smells like a very dark hot chocolate, and now tastes like it too. The mint has almost completely disappeared unfortunately, which is a shame – but I just add my own mint next time. I have a lovely Arabian Mint I’ve been waiting to use just for something like this.

I could easily drink this nightly. I’ll surely become an enabler of this tea now too. It would’ve gotten a higher rating if the mint stayed present in the cup (and was more present from the start), and if there were better steeping instructions. For future reference: overleaf and oversteep.

VariaTEA gave me a sample of this and I dumped the entire thing into my mason jar! OH YEAH. This is a mason jar tea. I let it steep for 10 minutes and added milk and it is pretty delicious.

Still a little thin, but, it’s not an actual hot chocolate so I’ll do the best with what i have. And this is enjoyable. Not sure I’d want 100g of it, but maybe 50. Thanks for letting me steal your sample!!!

(And I had better get off to bed. I’ll regret staying up in 6.5 hours. DOH)

Just a quick note before I crash.
This required FAR too much sugar to make it chocolatey. The mint seriously dominated. Milk helped a little.
I much prefer the regular, non minty version. Oh well I need to experiment!
That said, it was pretty tasty. Only my comparison to the amazing regular cacao tea makes this one pale.
I really enjoyed the mint and chocolate combo, I just feel that the reg version has more depth.

I used 1 tablespoon (emptied triangular pyramid bag unit) for 188 ml of water.

Brewed tea has a chocolatey richness to the aroma with the mint in the background.

On the sip I getting primarily a mint flavour with the chocolate in the background. The mint flavour is found near the front of the sip which disappears into the chocolate taste near the end. The immediate chocolate aftertaste is rich and reminds me of a thick hot chocolate.

.Had this tonight with just a bit of sugar to sweeten. Amazing!! The chocolate from the cacao is there but the mint is also present. I felt like I was drinking a liquid mint chocolate bar. I have been very impressed with these cacao teas, they steep beautifully and really capture that chocolate taste. I am looking forward to trying the other flavours available!

This is pretty damn delicious. It’s pretty much as advertised – it’s a peppermint chocolate tea. And it tastes GOOD. I will definitely need to get more of this once my sample pack runs out.
