From DAVIDsTEA

Garden party

Is there anything prettier than a rose-scented tea? This classic blend is just as romantic as a bouquet of flowers – and a whole lot tastier, too. Rose Congou teas are traditionally made with black tea, but we love mixing rose petals and rosehips with the subtle grassiness of Chinese green tea. The result is deliciously floral and delicately fruity, like walking through an English garden after a spring rain. No umbrella required.

Ingredients: Green tea, rosehips, rose petals, natural flavouring*.

It’s been a long time. I’ve forgotten what a quiet evening at home feels like. I haven’t slept well in weeks. It’s nothing scary, just too many social obligations all at once. Not to mention that I just volunteered to be a part of some huge project at work. Why did I do that? I suck. Boy do I miss my me time.

So for the first time in weeks, I’m home by myself with no one to request my attention except my pups. Heaven. What’s even better is that I have a pot of this tea cold brewed. I see that most people are not too fond of it, but it just tastes like syrupy rose candy and green tea to me. Refreshing.

Anyway, time to prepare for bed. I plan to get up early so I can get some stuff done for this project at work AND still fit in my regular day job. So sleepy…

EDIT I forgot to mention that I bought 250 grams of this from DavidsTeas 40% off sale. I threw in a few other things to get the $50 free shipping minimum. So yeah, I have lots of this tea now! I am both excited and disappointed in myself.

Nxtdoor

Wow, somebody likes this tea? That’s awesome. I hated it, wondered who on earth would buy 250 of it. So YOU’re the one :)

Mercuryhime

I know right? I figure DT owes me one. :p

Brewed up for my mom, and tested out a sample. Definitely not a fan of rose in tea as a dominating flavour, but she likes it well enough!

And this one is only from 2 days ago! I’m making progress. I got this in my swap with Kittenna, which worked out perfectly since she hates floral teas (particularly rose) and I love them! I’ve had a few rose congous before, but never one with a green base. Rose pairs pretty well with almost any base in my opinion, so why not a green congou?

I cold brewed this as per usual… I feel like that’s all I’ve been doing recently, but it is summer after all. When it’s really hot out I sometimes put a splash of rosewater in my ice water just for an extra refreshing drink, and that’s exactly what this tastes like! Well not exactly, since the green base is pretty prominent, moreso than I thought it would be. The rose though is so nice, perfectly floral and kind of… crisp. Like almost icy and cooling. It’s a different aspect of rose that I’m not really that familiar with since I don’t often have it iced, but I think I will more often now!

Kittenna

Yay! Another tea that found a better home with you :P

Mini sipdown. Does a sipdown count if it was just a sample? Yes, I suppose it must. It is a tea gone from the cupboard.
Its a very nice green tea. I love the rose aspect to this. Its what a green tea needs to maximize its appeal to me.
Warning to rose haters- this is not for you!

This was one of the samples with my last order. I would have likely not tried this for a long time because I learned I’m not so much into floral teas after trying Strawberry Rose Champagne from Teavana a while back. However, they have this one as their web special sales and I had to try it to see if it’s worth buying 250 grams of it.

It really is a good tea if you like floral. Oh my god, is it ever floral. I taste no green tea, which is fine, it’s a good base for this, allows the rose to really come forth. I feel like I’m chewing rose petals. I haven’t added any sugar, this is one of those teas I can drink without, I don’t even crave it in here, it would probably make it megarose.

A 3 minute steep gives off a very fragrant brew. Flavour is exactly what you smell. Rose. It is not unpleasant but it is very much there. It has a very long aftertaste also. I used the entire sample and it’s given me 16 oz, more with resteep although I don’t think I resteep this one.

Will not rate as it is a good tea, just not for me. If you do like floral or rose teas, DAVIDs has this on special right now. They’re practically giving it away :)

momo

They seriously do just want to give it away. My replacement tea a week after an order arrived came w/3 more sample packs, and this one was a repeat! I gave the second one to a friend…I’m afraid it might be the first floral tea she’s had so I’m worried about what will come of it haha.

JustJames

samples are always good! i don’t much do david’s, but tea samples are nice! i have some coming from steap shoppe.

Stephanie

I am curious about this one too, since it is on special, but I don’t live close enough to a David’s to easily get samples :/

Nxtdoor

Stephanie, find your neighbour’s rose bush and steal a bud or a bloomed one. Chew it. Voila, rose congou green!

momo

LOL don’t even chase it with green tea, it’s that bad? now I’m even more afraid to try it and I do like florals… but now I’m having flashbacks to one of DT’s jasmine teas…bleh!

Nxtdoor

Snce you have a sample, momo, go ahead! If you don’t like it just put it on the stove, reduce it down and put it in a spray bottle. Give yourself a spritz when you leave the house. Victoria secret got nothing on this one :)

I tried this one today in my one dollar mug. I ended up tossing most of it because I truly thought I was drinking a broth of pure rose petals. I knew I wasn’t going to enjoy this one, but damn did it taste like I was eating a flower.

(Also, hi guys! I miss you!)

Dry Leaf Nose: Very rose-like with the green tea supporting the floral notes; some fruitiness.

Liquor: Green-gold liquor with a rose aroma rising along with green tea oils.

Flavour: Rose is definitive and balances well with the Chinese green tea while the rosehips add a fruity quality that works to smooth the liquor.

Sounds yummy! Didn’t see it when I ordered this week online so I assume it’s not out yet? BTW, I have to mention the exceptional customer service I experience with you at all times here in Montreal. I placed my order on Monday, and not only did it arrive at my door 2 days after, but the lovely Natalie made sure I get the samples I requested, I love you guys!

Smells like a fresh rose garden
Tastes too strongly of roses, but I guess I should have expected that! I would put less than the recommended amount of leaves next time, then maybe it wouldn’t be quite so overpowering. However, I did actually enjoy this as I was in the mood for something very flowery.
2nd steep: 85degrees, 4minutes, still tastey rose going on strong

Made for me at a DavidsTea store. Steeped 3 minutes. Drunk bare.’

You’ve got to seriously like floral teas, and especially, like the scent of roses, to enjoy this tea.

Luckily, I was right in the mood.

A good balance of rose and a mild China green. By the end of the cup, I got more roses than tea.

I expect a 3-minute steep is as much as this tea can tolerate. There was a slight soapiness to the rose by the end.

It tastes of green tea and roses. A bit perfumey. Might be better enjoyed 125mL at a time, versus 250mL or more.

I LOVE floral tea! This is no exception, it’s delightful. I bought a thermometer thingy from DT today but it’s not as user friendly as I had hoped. Needless to say I can only assume that I steeped this at the correct temp.
In any case this is a great tea. The rose is quite strong in the flavour, it’s a smooth tea. Happy to have it in my cupboard.
