Sweet Prickly Pear

Another tea from my swap with Lala I am loving this one! I’m not getting the after taste that others did, beyond the taste of a slightly unripe pear in the after taste. The tea is a sweet, fruity tea with a pear taste that rolls through the sip.

Thanks to Lala via Sil for letting me try out another pear tea! Unfortunately, although this blend is quite pleasant, it fails to hit the “pear” mark. I wonder if that’s because prickly pear is actually cactus, not pear! (Probably.) That said, I’ve been dying to try cactus teas as well, so it worked for me!

Anyhow, I didn’t make great notes on this as I drank it at our meet up, but it was a lightly flavoured green, very smooth and sweet. It didn’t taste like a typical flavoured sencha, which I am not fond of, so that was appreciated. I’ve only had prickly pears a couple times previously, but the quality of exotic fruits obtained in Canada is usually questionable at best, so even if I could remember how they tasted, I’d be skeptical as to whether that was what they really tasted like. So, about the best I can do is say that it was fruity and I enjoyed it. I do have enough for another cup, so hopefully at that time I can better articulate it! I also noticed that other people mentioned strange flavours – I didn’t taste any of those :)

I’m not sure about this. Is it Sencha? I’m not a huge fan of the base. The fruity part is nice. Vaguely reminiscent of pear but there is a stronger overlying general fruitiness. I added a pinch of sugar to see if that brought out the flavours more, but alas it did not.
A rather familiar flavour to be honest. I’ve had something similar, somewhere, before.
Also, now that I am finished my cup, I’m feeling a prickly sensation. Whether that’s my dislike for sencha, or the power of suggestion, I don’t know!

1.5 tablespoons for 375 ml

Tastes more like tart apricot than prickly pear. There is a pear-like note. Slight perfume-y note near the back of the throat at the end of the sip. Soft sweetness.

This was sweet and fruity enough, tasted vaguely of pear but it had a very strange aftertaste following each sip.
I think I would like it, but I can’t get around that weird taste.
2nd steep: much the same, that weird taste didn’t go away

I have never tasted a prickly pear, so I do not have much to compare this tea to, but I find it to be delicious. It tasted like a light green tea, with a fruity flavour, tropical flavour to it. Its sweet on its own, slightly creamy taste. The fruity flavour mixes well with the green tea.
It does leave an aftertase.
