From CNNP (Yunnan Sourcing)

Big Yellow Mark (lit. Da Huang Yin) is a CNNP labelled tea from a small producer in Menghai. The tea is a blend of Nan Nuo and Bu Lang Mountain Spring 2005 tea. The tea has been stored in a “dry Guangdong” condition for 12 years and has developed a nice aged feel to it. The bitterness and astringency of it’s origin is still there but has largely (but not entirely) been transformed into something floral, sweet, and broth-like. Alot of complexity and very thick viscous tea soup and long lasting full mouth-feeling.

I recommend this tea for those who like to drink semi-aged teas or want to take shortcut on the longer term aging by buying something semi-aged. Another 10 years in a good pumidor or storage condition will transform this powerful tea into something that can be enjoyed as a truly aged tea!

I had heard a few good things about this tea, so ordered a sample with my last YS order. It’s a nice semi-aged raw puerh. I didn’t have any strong body reactions to this one. It had some slight bitterness but the young rough edge has come off. I noticed the same menthol cooling effect another Steepster mentioned. I found that this tea had a drying effect on my mouth and made me thirsty after the session. It is no longer available on the YS US site, but is still available on YS China. I wish I had found this one earlier on when the price was lower.

So I found a sample of this that I traded for with mrmopar maybe two years ago. It was stored in my pumidor in a Mylar zip lock sample bag. Interestingly, I suspect this created a mini micro climate that sped up the aging process. The brew was very dark, basically shu dark. Very strong qi.

It tastes of mushroom, hints of fruit, and other agey type flavors. I think this is a good example of a humid stored tea done on the dry side. I’m not sure how much I like it. I don’t care for the mushroom flavor that these types of aged teas have. I wonder if I can age that out of it? I suspect not. But it is a very reasonably priced semi aged semi humid stored factory tea. Good to have on your bucket list for education sake.

I also ordered a new sample of this from YS. I will see if it is any different than my sample aged at home. That should prove interesting…


Very interesting! I’m curious to know what you think of the new sample. Mr. Mopar’s teas are aged very well and perhaps it just got further along in the bag. I suspect that the profile will change with airing. Sheng continues to change, and maybe that flavor note you’re not fond of will too.

I haven’t tried any cnnp stuff from YS until now….

Amazing dry storage. The bulang is the star here! Not sure if I pick up the nannou as it might be lesser amount of it blended in here.

After 2 separate sessions I have decided that I will pick up a cake when a sale happens. This is just a solid dry stored tea
