Known as the ‘People’s tea of Japan’ or ‘Popcorn Tea’, Genmaicha is an all day tea. Roasted rice kernels add a slightly toasty and nutty flavor to the tea, resulting in a refreshing and clear liquor tinged with a slightly olive tint. This tea’s aroma has spicy warm hues of roasted rice. Pairs well with sushi and other Japanese food. Wonderful!

I can’t describe the smell for you because I can’t really smell a thing at the moment. But I will tell you this has turned into my afternoon go to cup since i picked it up last weekend in DC. :)

Sweet, toasty, and delicious. I love the roasted rice flavor of Genmaicha, it reminds me of my favorite part of rice when I cook it, the part that gets slightly caramelized at the bottom of the pan in my rice steamer… sweet, a little crispy … just YUM! Combine that with the flavor of the sweet, vegetative taste of green tea. Just lovely.

Parceling this one out, I got mostly toasted rice in my teaspoon, so the green tea was a little scarce. Tasty anyway! The green tea was actually larger and longer than I usually see in genmaicha, so the flavor wasn’t as light as I thought it would be. (Though that doesn’t make sense – I thought tiny leaves mean stronger taste.) I always love a roasty toasty genmaicha!
This one sounds good. I am mostly a Oolong lover a long with ripe and raw puerh. As for green tea the one I go to most is Long Jing. Always wanted to give a good quality Genmaicha a try. Will have to add one to the list to try. Thanks for the review.

Funny story is I almost worked at Capitol Teas, I worked at the Teavana in Annapolis and was offered at job at the Capitol Teas in downtown Annapolis but ended up staying at Teavana since my boss gave me a slight raise. Ha but anyways, I’ve been looking to try a Genmaicha, as someone whos tried many kinds would you recommend this to start?
