Could not remember if I’d tried this kombucha before – but clearly I have. At least I don’t have to make a new Steepster entry for it, so that’s a win. I’ve written like 30 tasting notes today and frankly I’m tired. I just skimmed my last tasting note for this though – no wonder I didn’t remember it; I first tried it two years ago and it was my first EVER kombucha outside of the kombucha powder used in DT’s blends. Wow.
I think I liked it more this time around then I did back then, but interestingly I found that my tasting this week was almost more like a fizzy juice without the tangy/vinegar like ‘bite’ that I wanted. Two years ago, when I tried this, I found it TOO tangy/vinegar like and that’s why I scored it so low. I don’t think it’s that the quality or profile of the kombucha has varied in the last two years though. No, it’s far more likely that my familiarity and taste preferences regarding kombucha are the thing that’s changed.
This is why it’s cool to keep track of trying new things in tasting notes – reliving my first ever experience with kombucha just now was actually really cool! And a good reminded of how our taste preferences shift over time, especially as we become more exposed to different teas.
