Gingerbread Rooibos

Lisbet sent me a sample of this one. Thanks!! I tried it today, but I think I didn’t have enough tea leaves for the mug. I will have to try it again with more tea. It was weak. I could taste the gingersnap flavor and a malty cigar like flavor in the rooibos. I’m thinking it will be better with more tea. Reserving rating for now.

I adore rooibos and adore gingerbread. So this blend kinda lept out at me, despite it being so humid in Houston right now that I feel like I’m in a sauna every time I step outside- I keep sticking to things. This one doesn’t taste like ginger tea- which is what every other gingerbread blend I’ve ever tried ends up as. It really does taste like gingerBREAD. However, it’s fairly subtle without any sweetener or cream, albeit tasty, and it had actual chunks of gingersnap in it. I definitely wouldn’t compare this one to a chai, which is what I’d been expecting, and I don’t taste the rooibos particularly strongly either. I think I like it, but I’ll definitely be updating my evaluation as I go through the bag. Not sure the gingersnap pieces actually contribute any flavor when left to dissolve with the tea leaves, but they were a nice visual touch.

After much deliberation, I decided to go with another tea courtesy of Doulton. For some reason the dry tea smells minty to me…that can’t be right. But it didn’t smell like I expected. The dry mix looks pretty with the bits of gingersnaps and pieces of ginger. The tea is pretty good, after steeping the cinnamon and ginger stand out. I like this because it doesn’t have that wood taste that rooibos can have at times. I don’t know if I would have pegged this tea as gingerbread, but it is a nice, slightly spicy tea. I will certainly enjoy the rest of my sample.

This is simply a delightful, festive, holiday tea that works well on any cold evening.
Gingerbread Rooibos was the first in my “tea of the week” orders and I was thrilled. In addition to the very attractive packaging (such things do matter to me a little bit), they produced a dreamy and delightful tea. There’s the snap of ginger but also the sweetness and soothingness of a complexly flavored gingerbread.

I was thrilled with this selection—the odor, the taste, the experience were comforting in a way that is exciting. I felt returned to the age of innocence when Christmas meant spice and sugar and all things nice. Great tea! Different and versatile.

Ok, it is official, I do not like Rooibos. Done. Moving on to something more worthy of my money and tastebuds:)

I love the gingerbread flavor in this tea. My favorite for a late evening cup or two.

If you like rooibos, this will probably be perfect for you. I’m not a huge fan of it, but I decided to try this one as a caffeine-free alternative to the chai. I love spicy blends, but I didn’t think this one was as flavorful as it could have been. The overtones were mostly vanilla (the rooibos only enhances this), with a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg in the mix and a sweet finish. My husband has since taken ownership of this tea and loves it, but red rooibos is one of his favorites so there you go. A great rooibos, a not so great gingerbread.
