104 Tasting Notes
I really planned on letting this Sheng age, well I did for 5 days before curiosity got the better of me. The taste, to me, was pure heaven. I truly wish I had the ability to explain what subtle under tones this tea has. Since I do not have that ability , all I can say is the taste of this tea is a true joy on the tongue. I loved the consistency of this tea. After 7 steepings, the intensity never changed, it never grew bolder nor did it get weaker. The flavor however did change just ever so slightly with a nice hint of smoke coming out by steeping 5. All said, my bing will never get that chance to age, it will be gone in a couple of months and I will definitely have to buy more.
Preparation
Another sample from Garret. After the first steeping I was thinking “What is Garret thinking?” I like my pu’er dark and earthy. This didn’t look dark and earthy. After drinking steeping 5 I can tell you what Garret was thinking, it is time to blow open some doors for this guy. This is excellent pu’er, earthy but in a subdued way and the flavor is awesome. I would write more but steeping 6 is demanding to be joyfully made!
Preparation
This was a sample Garret sent with an order that I had placed. At first I noticed that the taste was not as bold as the Noble Mark, it was more subdued. However, after seven steepings I came to a few conclusions. First, I love this pu’er. By the fourth steeping I was so deep into pu’er bliss I forgot about my beloved Noble Mark. Second, this pu’er has an amazing consistency. Over seven steepings it was incredibly consistent, it never grew stronger nor did it grow weaker. Third, with each steeping there was a very subtle change in taste, with each steeping the new taste was just as pleasing or actually better than the last. This pu’er will be included in my next order!!
Preparation
This one, for me, is hard to rate. Upfront it has a really pleasing earthy taste and enjoyable complexity to it. The problem for me is, as I continue to drink it, I start to get a bitter taste. As I continue to steep it, the tea does start to mellow but there is still a slight bitterness to towards the end. I would really love this tea if I could just capture the pleasing taste that it has and lose the bitterness that develops toward the end.
Preparation
This pu’er was unlike any I have had before. Instead of an earthy taste, this one has a very strong woody taste to it. The more I sipped it, the more I liked it. It has a very complex, yet very appealing taste to it that I found I enjoy tremendously.
Preparation
Wow. This is a great pu’er. The first steep had a very smokey flavor to it with under tones that just keep your mouth guessing. Each additional steeping produced different flavors that were a pure joy to experience. It was really nice that toward the end, each steeping had flavors, that while different from the other steepings, were just as strong as the first. Great tea Garret.
