21 Tasting Notes
Thanks to DigniTea for the sample!
This is a nice, calm white tea. It almost reminds me of David’s Tea pistachio cream. I can smell the coconut but not really getting the full taste, or maybe I’m just not used to toasted coconut. I hope I have enough to try this iced. I still prefer pistachio cream to this one, but it’s not bad!
Preparation
I got a generous sample of this tea from DigniTea, thank you!
This is a pleasant oolong, not tart at all and with a slight sweetness. I bet it would taste even better iced. I don’t get any sharp bitterness at the end that I do with some other flavored teas without any added sugars or such. The pomegranate flavoring is pretty subtle, but not really in a bad way.
Preparation
One of the teas from my first traveling tea box! I love this box, it’s a great way to experience different teas. I hope to do more.
The dry tea had a very strange smell to me that I couldn’t place, definitely nothing delicate or fruity… Almost “mealy” like. Haha I’m so horrible at describing things in words! The smell once steeped calms down a bit, smells almost like a black tea but with a little something else added in.
So I’ve seen people describe the taste as tomato soup in tea form, and I think even one said cannelloni? There’s definitely truth to these! I can pick out the tomato and the sage gives me a feel for italian seasoning. So yes, tomato soup and/or cannelloni in tea form! Too bad it’s a black tea, as they just aren’t my favorite.
Preparation
Wow, had to add this tea in! First time doing that. This is the first tea I am trying out of my first traveling tea box! :)
I think it was a good first choice. This tea is definitely heavy in cinnamon, it is VERY bold and spicy and I love it for that. Not quite used to the level of spice, it takes some getting used to, but I won’t fault it for that. This needed no sugar for me at all, it already has a sweetness to it that matches the finishing spicy edge. Very hard to get the citrus in there, due to the heavy cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Overall, I like it.
Preparation
This tea smells heavenly! Buttery smell of pistachios and cream. I haven’t yet had a tea with mulberry leaves so I’m at a disadvantage reviewing this cup. I hope to soon taste the other mulberry tea from DT.
This is a very light taste, almost as delicate as a white tea. The color is a little darker than most white teas I’ve tasted. The only way to describe this tea taste is how I described the smell: buttery.
I wonder how this will taste iced…
Preparation
Wow, this is a very “dirty” tea… reminds me of Bamboozled which I really enjoy. Probably from all the powders added to it. The water is a dark amber color.
I can’t tell if it smells more like coffee or berry/cherries. Or maybe chocolate covered cherries. Haha!
Ok first thought on first sip: underwhelming. I would have thought for the amount of ingredients in the tea there would have been a little more substance to it. I’m adding some rock sugar in to see if it brings anything out. I just dumped out a cup of black tea earlier this morning so at least it’s not as bad as that one!
Still not really getting anything. It’s like a watered down fruity coffee, or at least what I’d imagine coffee would morph into in a tea version. I’ll finish the cup, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again. I’ll try this iced next time.
Preparation
A friend of mine picked up a few samples to try from Teavana when she went up north a few days ago. I really wish I had Teavana or David’s near me. Or maybe not, I’d probably spend too much money!
This is a beautiful dark red color, but worries me about the sour factor. I’m not against hibiscus but too many teas lately seem to rely too heavily on it really. Now that fall is pretty much here, I guess we’ll be seeing more spices. Yay! (Pumpkin Chai anyone??)
Wow. This is already sugared somehow, it seems many of Teavana’s tea are. I usually try to drink mine unsugared just because I like to drink a lot of tea and prefer not to ingest a ton of sugar through my drinks. Other than tea, I’m mainly a water person. Anyways…
There is a sour factor, but it’s pretty much nearly offset by whatever sugar is in the tea. It’s a little… “one note” for a tea. I was expecting a little more depth in the flavors. I bet this would be really good iced, I might try that once I finish my DT rose congou green that’s iced.
Preparation
Another sample by Dr Jim (thanks!)
When I brewed this I immediately thought of asparagus! My husband said it smelled like brussels sprouts. Good thing I enjoy both of those.
A light colored oolong with a nice, delicate taste. The second steep was just as good as the first. A pretty good oolong in my book. Not the best I’ve had, but I enjoyed it!
Preparation
Got this sample from Dr Jim and finally getting to try it out!
Steeped about 2.5 tsp of it in my XL mug just under boiling for about 5 minutes.
I’m not a usual black tea drinker, but this is nice for a black. I like the vanilla tones and it’s not too bitter even with the long steep time. I could see myself drinking this often on the rare times I reach for a black tea. I’m curious to try it caffeinated just to compare.
Preparation
Ok I steeped this on the heavy side (about 2 tsp per cup), for the max time (5 minutes). I haven’t had much luck with Tealux teas and this one seems no exception.
Very bland, watered down. I don’t normally sugar my teas so I feel if I NEED to add sugar, it’s not that great. I’m not even getting the slightest hint of chocolate. I’m a rooibos lover, so that’s not really a factor here. If you took the chocolate taste and sugar out of hot chocolate, this is what would be left.
