Not a ton of oolongs in the Strange VariaTea TTB but I’m trying all of them! I think most (all?) milk oolongs I’ve had until now have been the kind that haven’t had flavor added. I strongly suspect that this one has. It’s very strongly sweet, creamy, and floral. Tasty, but it’s like those elements have been turned up too high. I could be wrong! I also mostly drink Taiwanese oolongs and this one is from Fujian Province, so mayyyybe this is a regional variation thing. It just tastes too milky, though.
Strange VariaTEA TTB #29
This has more of a light, floral flavor profile than I’m used to with milk oolong. I might have thought it was just an unflavored green oolong drinking it blind. It’s pleasantly smooth and buttery, though, and re-steeps really nicely.

#SVTTB Round Two – Tea 19/???
Very nearly finished sipping through the teas in the box that interested me, so I’ll be ready soon to start figuring out a shipping order for this TTB – let me know if the comments if you might have an interest in joining? Probably going to start with instagram tea friends for the first leg of this boxes’ journey but I’d like to connect it with IG and Steepster people if possible!
This was a pretty tasty cup. It’s definitely a flavoured milk oolong. You can tell from the very intense notes of butter that almost give a movie theater popcorn kind of vibe. Just much too packed in to ever possibly be natural. I have no qualms with a flavoured milk oolong though. It’s smooth and cozy, and who doesn’t like the taste of butter?? This one also has enough of the base that comes through to still have a very nice soft floral finish of lilacs, and it’s that added little push of dimension that really makes or breaks a milk oolong for me. In this case, makes it.
If the box is going to make its way to the States, I’d be interested in joining! Totally understand if not, though – that international shipping gets real pricey real fast.
A very lovely scented tea. You see Jasmine scented teas everywhere, but this is one of two places I’ve seen Orchid scented green tea. If you enjoy jasmine, check this tea out while the supply lasts!
I used 3.8g/235ml, 85C water, first brewing was 30 seconds +10 seconds for each additional brewing.
In the first cup you are met with a lettuce-like flavor mingled with honey, orchid, and gold raspberries. You have the honey, orchid, and gold raspberries linger in the aftertaste. The liquor is very light and smooth.
In the second cup the liquor is even more buttery and smooth. Your tongue is immediately met with a very strong flavor of honey, melon, and orchid mixed together. The lettuce from before is much lighter in flavor. In the aftertaste there is orchid, melon, and a little elderberry that mingle together.
The third cup is much milder in flavor. Butterlettuce and a hint of green beans are present in the liquor. The aftertaste is a gentle mixture of orchid and honey.
I went up to six cups and the remaining were more or less mellower versions of the third cup. Very nice!
