Recent Tasting Notes
This is an interesting tea that I bought from a relatively new EBay seller. It is a reasonably good puerh tea with some hints that it was dry stored. While the tea was sweet from the start and you could even use the words apricots and stonefruits to describe it, it also had a bit of a sour note mostly in the aftertaste. I expect this means it was in dry storage. That note lasted about six steeps and was gone by the seventh. It left behind a nice sweet tea. I didn’t notice any bitterness at all but there was some astringency.
I steeped this eight times in an 80ml teapot with 6.5g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, and 30 seconds.
This tea was reasonably nice but nothing out of the ordinary. It was by no means spectacular. It was fairly cheap. It started out with a bit of an unpleasant taste but I rerally didn’t identify the note. About the third or fourth steep I noticed a note of whiskey but without the intensity of whiskey mind you. It did slowly develop into something sweet. I am not entirely sure what to call it. This is not a tea I would buy again but hopefully it will get drunk over the next few years. It is one that I think needs a good five more years of aging. It never brewed up to the color of black coffee like some ripe but was a nice amber color throughout all ten steeps I gave it.
I brewed this ten times in a 150ml gaiwan with 10.9g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute. I have decided not to recommend or not recommend this tea. I am not sorry for having bought it but probably would not buy it again.
This is a fairly nice ripe puerh. I was taking a bit of a chance in ordering it as it is froom a new EBay seller. It was bittersweet at the start with a fair amount of fermentation taste. That taste was a little unpleasant but not fishy. It slowly evolved into a fairly nice sweet ripe puerh with a bit of a fruity note by the tenth steep although I couldn’t pin it down to a specific fruit. It was a very strong and dark tea. If I wanted to continue I am quite sure I could get another five or six steeps out of it but ten steeps from a 160ml teapot is quite a lot of tea.
I steeped this tea times in a 160ml solid silver teapot with 14.1g leaf and boiling water. I gave it a 10 second rinse. I steeped it for 5 sec, 5 sec, 7 sec, 10 sec, 15 sec, 20 sec, 25 sec, 30 sec, 45 sec, and 1 minute.
