My son’s friend gave him a box of this herbal tea from Brazil, but he didn’t like it, so now it’s mine.

The passionfruit flavor is strong. I think the apple pulp is mostly for sweetness. I can pick up a little apple towards the end of the sip, and there’s a floral aftertaste that also reminds me of artificial sweetener.

I steeped it around 5 minutes with just enough boiling water, then added ice to cool it down and to get the strength right.

Flavors: Apple, Artificial, Floral, Passion Fruit

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

Another present from Martin!

The brewed tea certainly smells chocolatey and creamy.

It tastes floral and creamy, with a hint of chocolate near the end of the sip. There are also notes of vanilla and butter. It tastes like the holidays, sitting by the fireplace! I’ll bet it would be good as a latte, or even a latte with cocoa powder to make it more chocolatey. Thanks again, Martin!

Flavors: Butter, Chocolate, Creamy, Floral, Vanilla

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 5 g 16 OZ / 473 ML

Okay, as a latte, I’m getting a cooking flavor! Delicious.

Glad that you like this one that much. I wasn’t a fan.

drank Thai Lemon by Oxalis

Another fine present from Martin!

This is very lemon-forward, but what sort of lemon flavor is it? I have to go look. Oh it’s lemongrass I’m tasting, nice! There’s a little bitterness that lingers on my tongue, a bit like lemon rind, but it’s not bad. I have some Thai curry that’s ready to heat up, bet this will go great with it! The sencha flavor is very subtle with all the lemon flavor, but it’s nice. Thanks, Martin!

Flavors: Bitter, Lemon, Lemongrass

Preparation

I find with the rarer teas I review here, it’s fastest to just do a search for them, and Steepster is usually one of the top results!

This is a loose-leaf tea from Martin!

It’s kind of bright, with a good deal of astringency, and a mild citrus note. There’s a floral note too, and something vegetal at the end of the sip. The astringency is a bit much for me. I might enjoy it more as a latte. Thanks, Martin!

Flavors: Astringent, Citrus, Floral, Vegetal

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 4 g 12 OZ / 354 ML

Oh yeah, I like it better with some oat milk!

Martin Bednář

You are welcome. Apparently, not are teas suits you. But that happens.

This is also a gift from Martin!

For bagged black tea, this is pretty amazing. It’s smooth, not very astringent, and has citrus and honey notes, and a hint of malt. I’ll bet it would be got as a latte too, but definitely not needed! Thanks, Martin!

Flavors: Citrus, Honey, Malt

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Fresh Orange by Teekanne

Another treat from Martin! This one came in a standard tea bag.

Mmm, this is a nice herbal, hot or cold! I taste a lot of orange and orange zest. It’s naturally a little sweet, and there’s some sour in there too. I left the bag in while it was hot, enjoyed it, forgot about it for a while, then added a little ice. At the end of the sip, there’s a good repeat of orange, orange zest, sweet, and sour. Thanks, Martin!

Flavors: Fruity, Orange, Orange Zest, Sour, Sweet

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more 1 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

I got this today in a package from the Czech Republic. Thanks, Martin!

Mmm, the brewed cup smells malty. It tastes a little sweet with honey notes, and it’s quite malty. It’s not very astringent at all, and it’s very smooth. Delicious!

Flavors: Honey, Malt, Sweet

Preparation
205 °F / 96 °C 3 min, 0 sec 5 g 16 OZ / 473 ML

I can feel the care! Another sampler from the mail-order Portland Tea Festival this year. The orange peel and lemon peel stand out, and I think I taste a hint of mango at the end of the sip. Good for enjoying at the end of a long day while catching up on anime. Nice blend!

Flavors: Lemon Zest, Mango, Orange Zest

Preparation
Boiling 7 min, 0 sec 4 g 12 OZ / 354 ML

This is my first sample from the Portland Tea Festival by mail, which Sara told me about. I paid for a box with a shopping bag, two tiny tea cups (the kind you’d use for samples at a live tea festival), and lots of samples.

Mmm, this is nice! It’s very berry, but I can only pick out the blueberry flavor as distinctive. I pick up hints of honey and floral notes at the end of the sip. This would be excellent to sip in a rose garden in Portland.

Flavors: Berry, Blueberry, Floral, Honey

Preparation
Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 4 g 12 OZ / 354 ML

Hopefully I will dig into my samples sooner rather than later this time… I think I still have a few floating around from San Francisco International Tea Festival 2018…

Todd

At least samplers are quick and easy to sip down!

Lexie Aleah

I wish I had known about this.

Tiffany :)

Is this still available (the portland tea festival by mail box)??

Mastress Alita

It is not. They were a limited run, earning funds for (hopefully) an in-person event in 2022 (after having to cancel for 2020 and 2021). I got an e-mail about it as I was an attendee in 2019 and on their mailing list.

I have enjoyed various teas most of my life, but have recently started exploring higher-end teas. Still, plain houjicha (loose-leaf or bagged) makes me feel like I’m in Japan.
