401 Tasting Notes

Oh my, it’s been a busy summer for me and I have been neglecting steepster. I am on a hiking vacation to the Avalon peninsula in Newfoundland and I saw this tea in a gift shop. I do like a good boozy tea, but this rum taste is very weak. The underlying Ceylon black is not bitter, so it is drinkable, but I’ll leave the package at the Airbnb and stick to their other flavor that I purchased, the blueberry is quite lovely.

That sounds like a wonderful vacation!

This oolong tastes very mineral to me. I’m not getting much honey or floral notes from this one. It’s not bitter, but the minerality give it a bit of an astringent bite. Thanks for adding it to the box!

Strawberry toasty genmica! This one has a stronger strawberry jam taste first steep, the second steep is just toasty rice, but is still very smooth and not bitter. I’d consider this for purchase. Thanks for adding it to the box!

This is nicely grassy, like chewing on leaves. Crisp, bright and not bitter at all. I might take another serving before I send the box to Martin. Thanks for adding it to the box!

Bergamot and berries is what I taste here, not any vanilla. An enjoyable morning cuppa before it gets too terribly hot. Thanks for adding it to the box!

At first I compared this to a bowl of fruity pebbles with som orange pekoe poured in. But as this traveled in my go cup I got more of a cranberry vibe. I drank half of it and then added some ice and it didn’t stand up well to a scoop of ice. Still cranberry, but quite a bit weaker. A nice tea to try and thanks for adding it to the box.

We have some red rocks in Big Horn canyon where I drive the boat, and this oolong testes like some rusty rock scrapings fell into my cup. There is a sweet and floral oolong underneath the iron minerality, but it’s buried deep. I’ll try a few more steeps to see if the oolong can rise to the occasion, but on the whole this one is too lopsided for me.

Not getting a lot of coconut or cream here, the cardamom and ginger are the strongest flavors. I am enjoying the cool morning spring like weather and feeling slightly guilty that the rest of y’all are switching to iced tea. This is not a bad little chai, don’t know if I need it in my cupboard, but I’d drink it again.

I do like a good licorice tea, but this one is a bit muddled for me. There are other flavors trying to compete with the anise, and it just doesn’t blend well with my palate. Not sure if I used too much leaf, I do need some caffeine this am, so maybe I overleafed it? Thanks for adding it to the box!

I started drinking more tea about 10 years ago when I found that even my half -caf coffee was making me jittery and then sleepy after the caffeine wore off. While I started out with mostly Teavana, but soon expanded my tea cupboard to include lapsang souchon, pu-erh, Assam, and other strong black teas. I do enjoy oolongs, green, and other teas, as well as a nice tisane for an evening cuppa.
I’m not fond of jasmine or bergamont teas, though I’ll try anything once.
I am an avid traveler, hiker, soccer player/watcher.
I love trying new tea in new places, if you see something in my cupboard you want to try, hit me up for a swap!
