424 Tasting Notes
This is a pretty OK Earl, although I think I like the EG Cream varieties a bit more. I was a little apprehensive about it since it smelled SO STRONG in the sample bag I had. I had to double bag it. But after the steep it’s just a pretty normal strength. Nice, a bit astringent. I don’t know if it will go on the must have list but I have no issue finishing off the several cups worth of leaf that I have.
Let’s see, the hot tea is starting to make me…hot. So I looked around for a good way to brew up some cold tea, and found some size 4 Tsacs on Ebay cheap. I got 100 of those suckers for $5, shipped. I asked my daughter to pick one of the teas we have a lot of (we have a bunch of 1/4 lb teas from Darlene’s off of Ebay) and she picked Apple Pie. So that will be our first experiment later today.
My mom is coming in tomorrow, which is always sort of a mixed blessing thing. I am really happy to see my mom, but she tends to look around for the ONE thing I haven’t done instead of the million I have done. You know? Like I can make 6 figures a year, own a company, raise two great kids, have a happy marriage, and she still will complain that I need to do X. Whatever. Looking forward to it. Kinda.
I got a sample of this one in the mail yesterday from boychik but I haven’t tried it yet. Have fun experimenting with cold brew!
And good luck with your Mom…
i feel your pain. my mom is the same way, but i think she is learning…my biggest fear not to turn out same way. i think im being too critical of my kids
I really love this tea. Sadly I am almost out.
Busy week, my youngest is graduating high school Friday.
(I assumed it’s a daughter from something else I remember you saying…but now that I’m thinking back on it, I feel like I’m completely wrong. So either way, congrats to you both, and I hope I’m not completely stupid.)
I read another recent review on this that made me pull my sample out to try. I am sorry to say it just doesn’t appeal to me. It tastes so GREEN. I really don’t like my teas to taste too green. This is probably due to an undeveloped palate, I’m willing to concede. I’m having a hard time making it through the cup. I am sure that nothing is wrong with it, it’s just not a good match for me.
I admit, I wanted to try this tea mostly for the novelty factor. I was surprised at how much I actually liked this tea, considering the reviews were less than stellar. I got a tiny bit of cinnamon, but the biggest flavors to me were delicious butter and toffee. I actually ran to the next room to let my daughter taste it. I went into it thinking I was clearing my cupboard of dreck, but really I think once I visit David’s in two weeks, I will pick some more up.
I got this in Zentea’s zomg awesome sale last week. I’m really enjoying it. I admit, I ordered it for my daughter because she really likes fruity teas, and the rating here was good. But I might have to keep this. That, and she is drinking a lot of my Earl Grey right now. It’s all good, there’s enough happy to go around.
I’ve heard that too :) Didn’t get my order placed yet.. eeks. We went out to dinner at a friends house and just got home. Had to check Steepster first!
Suziqzer, I agree with Marzipan, the EG cream is awesome. If you like coconut, both their coconut oolong and coconut green are really good. If you have questions before ordering, don’t be shy to PM me, I have tried almost all their teas, espacially the straight ones :-)
Thanks TheTeaFairy.. I think I’ve got it pretty well narrowed down. Too many I want to try and a couple I may order in larger sizes because reviews look pretty good. Earl Grey Creme and Coconut green are both on my list.. small size of coconut, larger of the earl.. can’t buy the amount I would like to of everything ! Plus there are several other companies I want to order from :) Crazy sales always lure me in though.
Lol, yes, that is a crazy sale they’ve got going on, I resisted only because I had too many orders on their way already!
This was my first tea from Handmadeteas. I have to say, the presentation of what came in the mail was really nice. There was even a wax seal on the interior envelope (swanky!)
This month’s tea is a black tea mix with glazed lemon peels. I’m drinking a cup now. I’m not really getting lemon from it, but as a tea, it’s nice and strong. I won’t have any issues finishing it up, and I like it enough to stay subscribed.
As a side note, if anyone wants to subscribe please let me know, if I refer you, I get double tea one month. MORE TEA!
I was reaching for Elder Grove but picked this up instead. It’s ok, I like this as well, and I can see if I hit the sack quickly again. Sometimes I think it would be easier if I renamed my teas things like Fred and Ginger so I can tell them apart.
Annoying grammar tip of the day: It’s “should have” not “should of”
/pedant off
The work month is wrapping up nicely! I think I will be able to not work all weekend. My last four shops to fill are restaurant dinner visits in Houma LA, Kingston ON, Rockland MA and Staunton VA if anyone is near there. :)
OMG! That’s ME! I’m the should of girl! I am going to re-read all my tasting notes now. I don’t ball my eyes out though. Most definitely am NOT that girl xD
‘balled my eyes out’ sounds horrid. I get mental images of melon ballers and… yeah. shudder
Also, on this site, if in doubt, go with ‘palate’. Every time I see someone write that whatever they were having wasn’t pleasing on their palette I have to stop myself from asking why they’re putting tea on that and what it’s doing for their palate.
