drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas

It’s such a beautiful day here today, nice and sunny with Carolina blue skies and a slight breeze. We had lunch at The Secret Tea Room and it was wonderful, as always. They have the best coconut macaroons and I ordered some to bring home. I would love to take a nap right now but need to go walk my mom’s dogs and check on the kitties at Petsmart. And we’re going somewhere to watch the basketball games tonight. I am hoping this tea will wake me up a little!

This tea smells like sweet marshmallow. I can smell it before I even open up the package! The flavor is malty with a sweet chocolate finish. There is a rich aftertaste of s’mores – the taste of it is dead on with an actual s’more. I really love that you can taste the malty, somewhat strong black tea at first and then there’s the sweetness of the s’mores flavor left lingering at the end. With a little milk and sweetener this becomes a silky smooth cup. I am seriously loving this tea right now! This is every bit as good as David’s Toasted Marshmallow, if not a tad bit better because it doesn’t seem quite so artificial. My fiancee is sitting right next to me, happily sipping away also, so it’s a winner for both of us!

Good thing I love this tea – I just received a swap package from whatshesaid and forgot she was sending some of this, and I also ordered it as one of my try-me packs. It will probably all be gone tomorrow! Thank you, whatshesaid! :)

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs with small marshmallows, small chocolate chips and fine graham cracker crumbs.
-Dry leaves smell like sweet marshmallows with a hint of chocolate. Tea liquor aroma is of black tea, marshmallows and milk chocolate.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium brown color.
-Malty flavor with a sweet chocolate finish. Rich s’mores aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Excellent tea. A silky smooth cup of sweet marshmallow and chocolate.

What an exciting day today has turned out to be! This morning my very first Della Terra order came, and I am super excited to try all of my new teas! I ordered two of the try me packs (these are great!!) so I have 10 new teas to try! I was hoping my order would arrive today, so that was very exciting when it did.

The next thing that happened was completely unexpected. I was in the shower and as soon as I turned off the water I heard all of these squeaking sounds. I just assumed that the cats had knocked something off the counter and were playing with it, or that it was one of the dog’s squeaky toys. I casually walked into my bedroom while brushing my teeth and about died – my cats had a mouse cornered and it was him who was squeaking away! One of my cats was pretty terrified of the mouse (they’re indoor cats) and the other one was sprawled out and just keep pushing him back towards her with one paw when he would start to run away (but not hurting him). I quickly scooped him up into some tupperware. I think he’s pretty young – he’s so tiny and scared. I gave him some bread, cereal and water and a toilet paper roll to hide in. People think I’m crazy, but I just can’t kill him. And I couldn’t let my cats kill him (if they even would, I doubt it!). So he’ll rest tonight and then we’ll let the little guy go tomorrow. And we will also be dealing with the door tomorrow – we got a new glass screen door just put on last week and they didn’t replace a certain part of the door frame and there’s a big gap at the bottom. Lo and behold that’s where the tiny mouse came through. We’ve lived here for 3 years and have never seen a mouse inside, so it has to be the new screen door. It certainly added some excitement to my day (and the cats thoroughly enjoyed themselves as well!)

On to the tea . . . Things have finally settled down so I can try my new tea! I picked this one to try first. When I was smelling all of them today this one lingered in my mind and I was thinking about it all day. The dry leaves smell like sweet cinnamon and raisins, and the tea has a spicy cinnamon and cookie aroma. There is a brown sugar and cinnamon flavor with a really nice aftertaste of warm oatmeal raisin cookie. You can tell this is a well blended tea because all of the flavors mesh together and complement each other without one standing out too much.

Ok, I just poured the rest of the tea that had steeped longer out of my little teapot into my cup and the flavor is SO much better. It’s everything that I noticed from the first cup but stronger. That just upped my rating. :) I feel like here is the amazing Oatmeal Raisin Cookie that everyone’s been talking about. Yay, I am very happy with this tea!

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs with raisins and pieces of oatmeal.
-Dry leaves smell like sweet cinnamon and raisins. Tea liquor aroma is of spicy cinnamon and cookie.
-Tea liquor is a clear golden yellow color.
-Brown sugar and cinnamon flavor with a warm cinnamon finish. Sweet oatmeal raisin cookie aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Very good tea. Oatmeal raisin cookie flavors blended together very well. A smooth and comforting cup.

Wow! That’s a lot of teas to try! I hope you enjoy them. I’ve been pretty happy with them for the most part.

How is the little mouse doing?
I think you saved him – the cats would probably eventually kill him – or he would not survive the fatigue and stress.
Such a great story!

What a comforting cup of tea after the dramatic rescue!
I am back…After I wrote that, I had to deal with a rescue of my own. My dog just brought in two snails. My daughter started screaming. The rescue is complete, no snails were eaten.
I think I need a cup of tea now! I was just going to comment that the tea sounds delicious and how kind you were to save the dear mouse!

Josie Jade

We released our little mouse friend this morning. He kind of looked around and then bounded off. We watched him leaping through the leaves/grass for a little while – he looked very happy! :)

Serenity – glad the snails were ok! Sounds like you’ve had a little excitement too this weekend!

First cup of the day. I purchased a sample pack of this, didn’t think much of it, and it got moved to the bottom of my tea drawer. Maybe I’ll like it better today? The dry leaves and tea do smell very enticing – warm milk chocolate with just a hint of sweet fruit. I’m such a sucker for anything that smells even remotely like chocolate! Ugh, this is horribly bitter! I steeped it for exactly three minutes, but it tastes like it’s been steeped for an hour. I can taste a little of the chocolate flavor, but absolutely none of the strawberry or rose. Adding milk and sweetener covered up some of the bitterness and brought out a little more of the sweet chocolate, but it’s still not that great. To it’s credit, it does become less bitter as it cools, but saying it tastes like chocolate-covered strawberries is a huge stretch. I could try playing with the steeping times but I don’t think it’s really worth it when there’s so many better teas out there, you know? I don’t like fighting with my teas. Haha, oh now I remember why I don’t care for this tea! :)

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves with pink and yellow rose petals.
-Dry leaves smell like milk chocolate and black tea. Tea liquor aroma is of warm chocolate with a hint of sweet fruit.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark brown color.
-Slightly bitter and malty flavor with a wispy chocolate finish.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Fair tea. Somewhat bitter chocolate tea. Little strawberry or rose flavors noticeable.

drank Decaf Tropics by Adagio Teas

Today has been a pretty rainy and blah day. And then a package came in the mail – surprise! Oh how I love to check the mail! My fiancee ordered me a really nice stethoscope for nursing school. AND it’s a sparkly pink color. AND he engraved it. So sweet! I was totally surprised and love it so much. He will be getting a big hug when he comes home from St. Louis tomorrow! :)

This tea is a cup of comfort for me. I wasn’t expecting much when I first purchased it, and the only reason I did purchase it was because it was decaf. It’s so wonderful, though – all sweet, warm pina colada flavors. It’s really soothing with a little milk. You can’t really taste a lot of the black tea base, but it’s there enough. This reminds me of drinking suntan lotion. That sounds odd, but it just makes you feel like you’re at the beach on a sunny day, sipping a pina colada.

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs with pieces of dried pineapple.
-Dry leaves smell tropical and sweet. Tea liquor aroma is of black tea and sweet coconut.
-Tea liquor is a clear dark brown color.
-Light pina colada flavor and finish. Tropical and sweet aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. A mellow and soothing cup.

I picked up a tin of this at TJ Maxx a while ago. I have had a few cups of it and love the strong flavor and the burst of energy it gives me. I have a ton on my to-do list today, so I’m starting the afternoon with a cup of this tea to get me going. The tea is a dark reddish brown color and smells deliciously malty and sweet. I seriously could swoon just smelling it. The flavor is very robust and just a little bitter. There is a nice, full, malty aftertaste. This tea takes milk and sweetener well, and becomes a smooth and bold cup. If it were just a little less bitter it would be almost perfect.

-Dry blend has small granules of black tea leaves.
-Dry leaves smell like strong black tea. Tea liquor aroma is malty and sweet.
-Tea liquor is a clear very dark reddish brown color.
-Robust and slightly bitter flavor and finish. Light malty and bitter aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Good tea. Adding milk and sweetener produces a bold and smooth flavor. Slightly bitter.

I added a box of this tea to my fiancee’s birthday basket last year. He loves green tea, and enjoys a cheap cup the same as an expensive one, so I figured we’d try it. He loves it, and is always happy when I make him a cup of this. This is my first time trying it. The dry teabag unfortunately has that artificial, chemical smell just underneath the pomegranate aroma. I also thought it was odd that the instructions listed on the box said to use boiling water, which I’m doing even though I know it’s wrong. The steeped tea smells like very tart hibiscus, yuck. There’s a bland fruit flavor that is immediately followed by a really icky, musty artificial taste that lingers. I tried adding some sweetener, which actually helped a lot, but I can still taste the chemical taste at the end. It does diminish a little as it cools. I actually find it really funny that my fiancee loves this tea so much, bless his heart!

-Standard teabag.
-Teabag smells like strong artificial pomegranate. Tea liquor aroma is of tart hibiscus.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy pinkish red color.
-Bland fruit flavor with a musty artificial finish and aftertaste.
-Best with sweetener.
-Fair tea. Nice pomegranate flavor with an unfortunate strong musty and artificial note.

I’m rather late to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee, but better late than never, right? Tasting one small cup of this and then passing the rest of the sample pack on to Mercuryhime for our book club swap. :) Even though I like Earl Greys, I think that I tend to not pick them as often because I feel like a lot of them taste the same, or are way too overdone on the bergamot. I can already tell that this Diamond Jubilee tea is different – the bergamot is very soft and it smells sweeter than a normal Earl Grey. I know there is grapefruit in this blend, so maybe that’s what causing the sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is a lot less intense than I expected, but in a good way. There is a light, sweet citrus flavor and finish. At the end it’s malty with a little bergamot. I’m not tasting any of the grapefruit, just an overall sweet citrusy flavor that is wonderful. I sure do hope Her Majesty drank some of this wonderful tea to celebrate her anniversary!

-Dry blend has medium black and brown tea leaves and twigs with fuzzy long green tea leaves.
-Dry leaves smell like sweet bergamot. Tea liquor aroma is of malty black tea and fresh lemony bergamot.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium orange brown color.
-Light sweet citrus flavor and finish. Malty bergamot aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. A delicate cup. Muted bergamot flavor with a hint of sweet citrus.

I love sweet potatoes! I know that I’ve had this tea in the past, but can’t really remember much about it. I can definitely taste the sweet potato, and there is also a really warm spiciness to this tea. The ginger is noticeable, and I wish it were a little less strong flavored, but it doesn’t ruin the tea. This is an ok tea, nothing in particular to point out that’s bad about it, but nothing jumps out and says “buy this tea”.

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves with yellow petals and pieces of cinnamon bark.
-Dry leaves smell like earthy black tea with a hint of spice. Tea liquor aroma is of warm sweet potatoes and cinnamon.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium orange brown color.
-Malty sweet potato flavor with a spicy finish. Warm ginger aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Fair tea. Light sweet potato flavor with a lot of spiciness.

I only have a little left of this tea. When I first purchased it I made a lot of lattes with it. The tea has a sweet, fresh berry aroma. The flavor is a little malty with a tart, fresh berry flavor and finish. There is a sweet berry aftertaste that reminds me almost of a dessert. There’s no pastry or cake notes, but it is authentically sweet without being too sweet. I’m glad this one is just as good hot as it is made into a latte.

-Dry blend has medium black tea leaves and twigs with small blue petals and dried rose hips.
-Dry leaves smell like slightly sweet and tart berries. Tea liquor aroma is of sweet berries.
-Tea liquor is a clear medium reddish brown color.
-Malty and tart fresh berry flavor and finish. Sweet berry aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Very good tea. Fresh and sweet berry flavor. Reminiscent of a dessert tea.

I have one sample of this and for some reason it looked good, so I decided to go for it. Not really pumpkin season any more, but oh well. The teabag has a strong pumpkin and ginger smell, with a little hint of spices. The tea has a rich, heavy pumpkin aroma. The flavor is pumpkin with a strong ginger finish. There is a light warming, spicy aftertaste that I imagine would be nice in the winter. For me, this tea is just a little too gingery. I can taste that flavor more than the pumpkin or any of the other spices. It’s not a bad tea, just nothing like pumpkin pie in my opinion.

-Round natural unbleached teabag.
-Teabag smells strongly of pumpkin and ginger. Tea liquor aroma is of rich and sweet pumpkin.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium golden brown color.
-Pumpkin flavor with a ginger finish. Light warming and spicy aftertaste.
-Best with milk and sweetener.
-Fair tea. More ginger flavor than pumpkin.
