139 Tasting Notes

I last had rated this an 88. I got a new pack of this a few days ago and had it yesterday and today. It gave me great energy. My dad and sister both liked it too.

I let it steep for an hour or so in my later steeps, and that delicious coffee bitterness came out.

Up to a 90. I feel like coffee and tea have a nice synergistic effect. I’d like to see more blends with coffee and tea.

Raseru’s post was spot on:

I really liked this one. It did remind me of a jin xuan a lot.

I really haven’t had many oolongs. Anyone know of other fantastic ones? There’s an overwhelming amount of them, and I frankly don’t know which ones I would like. I can say I’m not big into the floral notes. Everything else—fruity, vegetal, milky, chocolatey, spicey, bread, sweet potato, etc.—are fine.

Whispering Pines has the best Jin Xuan, Beautiful Taiwan Tea has great ShanLinxi, T Shop has a great DongDing (sold out), and there are good DanCongs to be found through YS. Oolong is just the best period : )

JakeB

Thanks for the recs! I’ll have to try those out!

I will have to see for myself if oolong is the best lol!:)It’ll have to beat out black tea, which is my favorite type right now.

Rasseru

Oolong all the way, the greatest breadth of flavour & experiences across the teas. Imho of course

This is the best tea I have ever tasted. I just love the dark chocolate bitter sweet and smoothness.

I originally bought an ounce of it, and went through that super fast. I bought a couple this time, and I’ll try to make them last.

I skipped drinking the Mate Nectar for this. I’ll get to that tomorrow!:)

Well done with this one, Andrew! Well done. :)

MadHatterTeaDrunk

He makes it impossible to NOT drink these teas quickly. They’re just so good. :)

Nobody has ever tasted this and not fallen in love with it. It is just thoroughly amazing.

Rasseru

I have some of this as a gift, & thought i would hate it. Turns out i even like it. a chocolate tea that mr fruity flowery likes too. who would have thought it

Liquid Proust

Did you cold steep the Mate then? The Laoshan Genmaicha is one tasty tea :)

JakeB

I did not actually cold steep the Mate. I did let it cool down a bit, and I really enjoyed it that way. I believe I have had it cold steeped before too.

I find it interesting that with the last 5-6 grams of this left, I’m enjoying it. I had a tough time liking this earlier. but at least it will end on a good note with me. :)

This is a very different taste than I’ve experienced before. The main note I’m getting (honestly) is berries.

I put this on my counter last night, so I could make way for new LP that just came in this morning!!!

On to Mate Nectar after this one’s done.

I am having a pretty darn good day so far. Drank this bulletproof style (added coconut oil). My GI system is definitely not used that lol, but my brain loved it. Even if it’s the placebo effect, I’ll take the upgraded brain function any day.

I don’t particularly like the combo of tea and coconut oil, but I don’t dislike it either. I think tea is best on its own.

That being said, this tea is good. It’s not in my “favorites” category, but it’s nice with primary notes of sweet potato and bread and a faint chocolate note.

I like this one. My favorite note in tea is chocolate, and that’s what I keep a lookout for. To my enjoyment, this has a nice dark chocolate taste.

Anyone know of any other good chocolatey black teas?

I just ordered some more Laoshan Chocolate Genmaicha from LP, which I’m super excited for. I think I’ll also order some more of YS’s Classic Laoshan tea and also see how it compares with the Imperial.

Laura B

I just got a sample of this and am excited to try it! If you love chocolatey black teas, check out Verdant’s Autumn 2016 Laoshan Black.

Interesting…I never wrote a note for this one, and I’ve had it for a while.

I like it. It is nice and light, and doesn’t make my stomach uneasy like several fruity-flavored teas do.

I’m trying to finish off a few teas before the new ones arrive—always an exciting task!

Flavors: Floral, Peach

I just remembered back to when I first ordered it. Tea was so fun and exciting (I was in the beginner,“try every tea” phase). I’ve taken too much for granted, and am starting to appreciate teas more again.

Rasseru

I love this stuff. So good

Arby

It’s been 5 years for me now, and I still have not left the “try everything” phase yet. I love high quality teas, but I still have a thing for flavoured/tisane sorts as well. I don’t think there is any flavour/variety I wouldn’t try.

Enjoying this one this early evening. I still liked the first batch better, but this one is growing on me. I finished up the nutty oolong that Andrew kindly gave for free. It’s just a thought, but I’d like to see a nutty, vanilla, black and oolong blend. Maybe that’s what A Dark Kitchen Sink is like. I will see. I just placed a LPT order and am excited to try that one and the 2012 dong ding!

tea-sipper

I like your idea for that combination!

Daylon R Thomas

Kitchin sink is pretty close to that with the Pu-Erh strongest for me personally. Otherwise, it is wispy, nutty, creamy, and smokey.

I’m onto my third year of drinking loose leaf. It’s been an exciting last year, trying lots of different teas, and finding out which teas I like and don’t like.
