I was not impressed with this pot of tea. It’s possible that I should have used two bags in my teapot, but this particular batch was very weak and bland. I even let it steep a lot longer than usual, but the taste did not improve.

As a teacher, every September my throat goes through pure hell. I have to get reacquainted with the amount of talking my calling requires. After five years in the classroom, this is still my go-to remedy. It tastes well and works even better.

I admit, I have a horrible sweet tooth. I’m trying to tone down the amount of honey or sugar in the raw I use with my teas, and so far this is the one tea I enjoy without adding anything extra. I know it can be a little (okay, waaay!) too sweet for many, but it’s just about perfect for me. It might be my experiences in Aveda salons, but I cannot help but feel relaxed and pampered when I enjoy a cup of it!

This tea always reminds me of home – I first tried it when I lived near their tearoom in Portland, OR and I’ve kept a supply of it in my cupboard for a couple years now. Part of the reason might be that my husband likes to buy in bulk and it’s taken a while to work our way through the six canisters he bought me one Christmas!

It’s overwhelmingly smoky, and both smells and tastes like a campfire. I like to mix it with other blacks, like a good Earl Gray, to add some different elements to it. Alone it’s a bit of a one-note but still a nice comfort. If you can’t sit around the campfire with your family, at least your tea can taste like it!

Feel free to browse my cupboard if you’re interested in swapping, but all the mate and pu-erh in our household is my husband’s.

For swapping purposes, please note the apple allergy. Thank you!

I tried to limit my cupboard to teas that were 1oz or larger, but that was a gorgeous failure in terms of swap communication. It’s all going back up.

Okay, I just feel wrong trying to grade things without a rubric – it’s too inconsistent! So, here is the grading breakdown:

0-50: Dump it!
50-60: I might finish the cup
60-70: Possibly finish the pot
70-80: I may keep this on hand
80-90: Cupboard space guaranteed
90-100: Poetry may be involved!
