I tried this with a generous sprinkling of sugar last night and a dash of salt….I’m crazy like that, why go for one or the other when you can do both?!

And wow!
So good. Really brought out the apples and potatoes.

I will do it again next time I drink this tea.
That is all. :)

Cheri

I’ve had a sample of this one for a while. I really need to try it.

Crowkettle

Ah, I was supposed to to send you some of this so long ago.. (I’m so sorry). Did you get the chance to try the original Potato Pancake? I’ll think of some other way to redeem myself either way! XD

ohfancythat

No, I never did try it :) I’d forgotten as well so no worries!!

This is such a delicious tea. I am not finding it to be overly malty or chocolatey, in fact it’s reading on my tongue as being incredibly, wonderfully JUICY. Like an explosion of slightly fruity, slightly malty tea with definite honey notes.

Truly, it doesn’t even matter to me, because ultimately when it comes down to it, it’s just so full of flavor and juiciness – such a smooth mouthfeel.

I’m on steep 2 for this morning.
I’m not even missing my daily AM coffee that I’ve been having regularly since going back to work! (6:30am wake ups don’t agree with my delicate composition :))

Anyway, no big surprise here. Another Butiki fave that I will mourn when it’s gone.

I got a lovely parcel in the mail from Nattie a couple days ago – a swap from England! An English swap! I’m technically 1/4 British, a fact I’m very proud of. I have family over there to meet one day.

For NOW – i shall drink the tea!

I brought any samples that were teas which could be prepared with boiling water to work, because those are easiest to make with the crappy kettle we have in our little kitchen. And believe me I am happy we have a kettle at all!

I was pretty pumped to try this one, based on the smell.

It didn’t disappoint me, it was a tasty alternative to an after lunch dessert.

I found a nice blend between the coffee/mocha, and chocolate and chai spices. The base wasn’t SUPER strong but definitely made for a hearty enough cup and i did add milk as well.

Maybe I could just let it steep a bit longer next time… Nattie was generous enough to give me enough for 2-3 cups!

Thanks :)

Nattie

I usually steep my bluebird blacks for a while – like 7 or 8 minutes – to get the most flavour out of it. I find their base/bases are usually very forgiving. It takes a lot to make it go bitter. I’m glad you liked it! (:

So, I’m pretty sure Stacy of Butiki Teas is out to get me with all these fancy new blends.

I have a complete lack of willpower as is! STOP TEMPTING ME, TEMPTRESS!!

I obviously had to order this one when it was released recently, and it arrived yesterday. Aw crap, now that I’m back to work instead of home with the baby, my husband sees whatever packages I get in the mail…no more hiding tea purchases.

I actually drove home on my lunch break today to see if boots I’d ordered had arrived yet. They hadn’t. Anyway that’s a bit of a digression.

So, while I was home, I decided to make myself a cup of this tea. It’s like -30 degrees celcius outside today, the kind of cold that makes your face hurt. Hot drinks WIN!

The only thing with all of these amazing Butiki teas is that most seem to be greens, whites and oolongs – aka fussy leaves. At home I have a fancy temperature setting type of kettle, but the only teas I bring to work for my daytime stash are ones I can just make with boiling water. I do have a little tea thermometer at my desk but I really can’t be bothered mucking around with that too often.

Since I was home anyway, why not make this!? It’s the one I was most excited about.

I brewed it up and was amazed by the potent smell, then equally impressed by the taste. I thought I’d be disappointed that it’s not a black tea, given the flavours involved, but dammit, she’s done it again.

Considering the final product in my cup was a clear liquid most closely resembling water, this tea is VERY flavourful. It’s the good-for-you tea version of a bad-for-you Pumpkin Spice Latte! Coffee, pumpkin, butterscotch, all there!

I’m only disappointed I somehow NEVER tried any of Butiki’s other pumpkin teas of the past. I guess my wallet is happy about that though.

It’s super SUPER yummy. That’s my bottom line.

I went and ordered another ounce. I think that’s all you need to know.

PS – yeah, I guess I can officially wave around my membership card for the Butiki Cult

Temptress is right! SHEESH! ;) My fave of her pumpkin teas is the still Pumpkin Milkshake.

Ever since Stacy announced the impending closure of her tea business, I’ve been riding high on the Butiki train.

I impulsively added a bag of this to my last order, because why not!?

I received my order yesterday and brewed up a cup of this last night.
I definitely noticed the buttery Taiwanese Bi Luo Chun base more than anything else, I might try to add a bit of extra leaves/taters/apple pieces in my next cup to see if it is a bit stronger.

I’m also intrigued by the suggestion to add salt or sugar… maybe I’ll get crazy and add a sprinkle of both!

There is definitely a generous helping of potato pieces in my bag, so i can play around with that.

Interesting one to try!

Dustin

I can’t look at her website anymore or I’ll place another order. Coffee and cigarettes is really intriguing! Must look away!!!

OMGsrsly

It is SO COOL with salt. So cool.

Plunkybug

Yeah, it is an interesting tea.

drank Eggnog by DAVIDsTEA
652 tasting notes

Brought some of this to drink at work, it’s always freezing in this office in the winter so it’s nice to have tea options. Obviously I have made sure to set myself up with a good selection!

I was previously pretty jazzed about this particular tea, because I love eggnog. I love Butiki’s Creamy Eggnog tea though I’ve always found it not quite comparable to actual eggnog, (likely because of the lack of spices)…so I was hoping this would be a bit noggier for the holidays, since I drink the Butiki one year round. Yeah, noggier.

Sooooooooo the smell is amazing, the taste is pretty good, I enjoy the use of green rooibos over the red variety which is woodsy and haylike and makes me want to barf a little. BUT, the tea brewed up is pretty thin. And sludgy. Lots of white chocolate chips means extra swampy oily tea sludge floating around in my cup.

So, likely due to that there is a hint of a weird chemicalness.

I will drop my rating down from the previous (over-enthusiastic) rating of 83, but I still don’t hate this tea. I’m glad I bought a little tin and I will probably just leave it sealed until next Christmas, if we’re being totally honest here. I appreciate the caffeine-freeness of it!

I MUST try it as a latte, I still have some actual eggnog left at home if it hasn’t gone rancid yet. I have this weird thing where I always balk at the idea of adding milk to any tea that isn’t black. But since other tea people recommend it… I guess the people have spoken.

Indigobloom

Ah I wish I had some nog in the house! Someone gave this to me as a gift

Plunkybug

Latte, yes. Do it. :P

Plunkybug

Indigo, real nog or this tea nog? I can send you some of the tea nog is you want.

Indigobloom

Aww thanks Amariel! I got this one for xmas, haven’t opened it yet though

Wow, such a tasty and unique tea!

This was sent to me by my Secret Santa Anlina – great pick! I’ve had it twice so far and really enjoyed it. It’s sweet and fruity yet also light. I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. I am not sure where the Christmas renaming to “Eggnog” comes from, because I wouldn’t compare this to eggnog whatsoever, but it sure is delicious.

Thanks so much for sending it my way, Anlina! I am really happy I got to try it, otherwise I may never have had the opportunity!

Another tasty Butiki offering!

I ended up ordering another bag of this because I decided I liked it enough to hoard a bit.

It’s pretty true to its namesake, as far as the flavours go, though I wish there was a bit more cashew flavour. The last time I drank it though, it had cooled down a lot by the time i finished my cup, and the raspberry flavour had really taken over.

This is definitely one I enjoy!

Happy New Year everyone!

I decided to smooth a bunch of random thoughts and notes in one review, because I’ve been drinking a lot of tea lately and haven’t reviewed much at all. So this is overdue,

I think this will actually be a big Butiki review! seeing as how that’s mostly what I’ve been drinking these days.

Since Stacy announced the impending end date of Butiki Teas, I’ve found myself ordering more tea from her than ever before.

I blame that on three factors:

1) Butiki teas are GREAT
2) A bunch of new blends were concocted that tempted me
3) knowing Butiki has an unfortunate scheduled demise makes me want it even more…. Since I always want what I can’t have.

Soooooo, this is just a brief review off the top of my head of some of the teas I’ve been enjoying lately:

Crimson Horizon – still very much enjoying this in the morning, I love how dark and bold it is, and the awesome resteep value. I get two totally equal delicious cups per serving, at least. Malty and raisiny and potent.

Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black – easily in my top five of all time teas. I will hoard this forever. I have decided my next mission is to try to find something from another company that comes even slightly close to being this delicious.

Irish Cream Butter Crisps – at first taste I was underwhelmed by this, because I found it very weak. And the name made it sound SO delicious. I think if it had been a black tea base instead it would be my very favourite. However I’ve subsequently had it two more times at least and have learned to appreciate it as as soft, lightly flavoured cup and have since purchased another bit!

Decaf Chocolate Raspberry Waffle – I bought a larger quantity of this than I normally would before tasting it, because of the decaf aspect. I wanted another option for my nighttime tea drinking. It’s not one of my absolutely faves but it’s not disappointed me, I enjoy how the raspberry and waffle notes take the edge of the chocolate so it’s not quite as rich or sweet as it might seem otherwise. A night late night treat!

Cinnamon Vanilla Squash – another soft tea that I had maybe hoped would have a bit more of a flavour burst, but ultimately also another soft tea that I have come to enjoy every now and again!

Plum Brandy Cheesecake – bought on a total whim. Tried it for the first time the other night and was pleasantly surprised at the genuine fruitiness! Very plummy and tasty. Will have to retry to see if I can separate the cheesecake flavour.

More later :)

Cameron B.

Ooh, in regards to the TWMB, I recently tried Keemun Xiang Luo from Capital Tea Limited and found it had that same waffle-y quality! :D

Sil

interesting cameron…

Cameron B.

I was excited! It’s not exactly the same, but it reminds me of a combination of Bailin from TeaVivre and TWMB. :)

Jennkay

Oh I know what you mean about Butiki splurging. My Black Friday plans went out the window as I was trying to stock up on things before they were gone forever!

Hello!

I love tea. I love my mini-me daughter, my husband, my dog Wally, Netflix, shopping, and tea. Some other stuff too, but these are the most important!

Some favourites -

My new favourite tea company is A Quarter to Tea. I love the flavouring used and how it doesn’t seem fake, and the combinations are so delicious. Right up my alley.

My favourite teas are black, I love Laoshan Black and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black tea from TTC. Also many of Teavivre’s black teas.

Butiki teas RIP, I loved how the flavours were subtle and not fake tasting and didn’t overwhelm the tea base. Trust that I am dramatically mourning the loss of this company!

Teavivre, Whispering Pines and Mariage Freres are some more tea companies I appreciate. Along with Davidstea as it was the ‘gateway drug’ to my tea addiction. Though I’m mostly over it now, I’ve definitely moved on from the artificially flavoured teas and am trying more quality straight teas!

My ultimate goal is to try as many French teas as possible – and to finally find a source in Canada for Mariage Freres so I can buy Wedding Imperial, and Black Orchid for sure.

I would like to try any Taiwanese Assams that exist in the world!

Also continuously on the hunt for Fauchon – La Naissance. If anyone has some of this I would pay for it!!! It’s my number one all time favourite tea.

When I rate, it goes like this:

85 -100 = WIN! awesome, I love this and keep it on hand
70 – 85 = pretty darn good but I don’t NEED to own it
55 – 70 = not necessarily terrible but not a tea for me!
30 – 55 = missed the mark as far as I am concerned. Wouldn’t drink it willingly.
0 – 30 = I likely won’t rate this low very often, so if you see it, consider the tea a great big FAIL and probably disgusting.
