45 Tasting Notes

This is the first loose leaf tea I had and basically what started me in tea drinking. Decided to pick some up the other day because jasmine teas have always been my favorite.

Sadly, this is not as good as I remembered. I prefer a stronger jasmine, but this tastes like mostly green tea and a small bit of jasmine. It also got bitter since I left it in my travel mug longer than I was supposed to. It does seem like there are some small dusty bits in tea, which may have contributed to the bitterness and stronger green tea taste. Will not be buying more of this when I finish the bag – I have found much better jasmine green teas both in terms of taste and value.

I think this is the one I ordered, just going by the picture because the only description I could find for the tea I ordered was “yunnan dian hong”. I’ve actually had this a few times now but was always too lazy to find the supplier name again, so never rated it.

The dry leaves are long and straight, unlike most yunnan black teas I’ve tried. The tea itself was also a bit unexpected for me. There’s a rich bread/honey taste, and less cocoa than other yunnan blacks. Definitely enjoying this now, and looking forward to the re-steep.

This one is definitely intensely sweet to me too. I’m glad you are enjoying it.

I tried this for the first time from the GCTTB, and decided to order some for myself. The milk flavor isn’t as strong as what I remembered, but still good! Been mostly drinking black teas during the cold weather months, but it’s nice to have some “lighter” teas once in a while too.

Part of my Black Friday order. Jasmine green tea is one of the first teas I really loved and it’s really what got me into loose leaf tea about a year ago. I love the smell of this tea – super floral! Brewed up, this is just what I expected, very floral and light. For some reason this tastes more jasmine-y than the pearls version, which to some people might be a bad thing, but definitely a plus in my book :)

drank Citrus Sunburst by Tiesta Tea

This came as part of a Tea Sparrow subscription box and has been sitting on my shelf for a while. Decided to try it hot even though the ingredients seem like it would be a great iced tea.

I’m usually not a fan of herbal teas because in my experience, they tend to have a lot of herby-tasting things. The ingredients on this looked safe though – mostly fruits.

The smell of this is really fruity and sweet, like strawberry/grape jello. Then, of course, my brain tells me to expect juicy sweetness, but was met with an initial sip of tartness. I let it cool a bit and decided to give it another try before getting the sugar, and surprisingly the tartness is gone. There’s even a bit of sweetness. It’s definitely very citrusy, and I can imagine this would be excellent as an iced tea, slightly sweetened. Guess I will save the rest for warmer weather, which unfortunately is at least a good 8 months from now.

The more I drink this tea, the more I taste the lychee flavor. Maybe it’s because I’m expecting it now? Regardless, this is becoming a staple for me, especially at work. It can steep for quite a while without getting bitter, which is really helpful when I forget about it when I get distracted by work. Lightly floral and fruity, a bit sweet as well.

drank Cookie by Lupicia

One of the samples I took out of the GCTTB when I had it. The tea, both dry and brewed, actually smells like cookies! This is a rich black tea with hints of sweetness like molasses, and a nutty kind of flavor, and it even looks like there’s bits of nuts in them.

Got this during the Teavivre sale as an everyday kind of tea. I can definitely drink this everyday! Smooth but strong, with a hint of cocoa, honey and sweetness to it.

Something I pulled out of the GCTTB Round 3. This initially had a kind of savory taste, then turned sweeter as I continued sipping. A bit of astringency at the end. Not a favorite for me, but not a bad cup either.

One of the samples I pulled from the GCTTB Round 3. This tea smells delicious, almost like a dessert! There is definitely sweet caramel flavor there, along with a rich, creamy background. Nice way to start the day :)
